James Avery has Passed Away..

It is being reported that James Avery.. the beloved Dad on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air died last night at the age of 65.

He had had surgery for an undisclosed illness and last night took a turn for the worse.

This is quite depressing, as I can remember being a huge fan of this show in my younger days... and still laugh and sing along whenever I hear the theme song.

RIP to a very funny man.

When I was in high school, my chorus would travel to Disney World every winter to take part in Disney's Candlelight; for those that are unaware, it's a bunch of high schoolers and a few professionals singing your more traditional Christmas songs. Between songs, a celebrity narrator will tell the Nativity story. My senior year, I had the pleasure of having James Avery be the narrator.

He came in during our rehearsal, looked at us and said "Children, sing your asses off". Of the other narrators I had, he was my favorite; he honestly seemed to be enjoying the whole thing, and side glances during songs showed him singing along. He would've been fun to hang out with.

RIP.

"OMG THAT WASN'T SCRIPTED, WILL SMITH'S DAD REALLY LEFT HIM AS A CHILD AND HE WAS JUST BRINGING UP OLD MEMORIES. THIS WASN'T ACTING, IT WAS ONE REAL FRIEND COMFORTING ANOTHER."

It's not one of those things where he was my favouritest actor ever but Fresh Prince was awesome growing up and he was awesome in it. Real shame to hear this.

Well, fuck :(

He was one of the highlights of the Fresh Prince for me (along with Will and Carlton), and it was only years later when I found out had voiced Shredder as well (and only found out he was JYD in the Rock 'N Wrestling cartoon, but it was dubbed here, so I never actually heard him as JYD). This absolutely sucks.

RIP.
