Sky sources understand Sunderland have held talks with Toronto FC over the possible transfer of Jermain Defoe. They are one of a number of clubs with an interest in the England international. Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage over a potential three-and-a-half year contract, but no deal has been agreed yet. The 32-year-old has been training at the Spurs Academy since returning to the UK on January 6. His move, however, could hinge on the departure of Black Cats striker Jozy Altidore who is thought to be negotiating a transfer in the opposite direction.
