If the rest of my videos haven't proven that FO4's physics engine is as stable as the Greek economy:

My better half bought Fallout 4 and after a couple hours with the game- I have zero motivation to continue. It feels like a lesser quality game compared to 3 and New Vegas. It feels way more linear and restricted. I noticed that it really discourages you from exploring the Wasteland. I've died way more than I ever died in the older games because of just exploring and running into enemies who I can't handle given my skill level.

In the old games I could play a good chunk of the game and not touch the story. This feels like I'm being penalized for not sticking to the story.

Wow that's odd. I've had literally the opposite experience compared to Fallout 3 - I would have used almost your exact words to describe my experience with Fallout 3. I said to some friends (about Fallout 4) "i'm level (whatever I was) and i'm about 15-20 hours in but I don't wanna go into the city cos i'm worried i'll get mauled." And I was told "wow I went there like ten levels ago!" Whereas in FO3 you seem to get badly punished for heading away from the City whilst under-levelled.

More linear than New Vegas?

That's... that's a joke right? New Vegas had a railroad in the first act of the main quest and things that would kill you dead the second you strayed off it. I'd say this is the most open of the 3D Fallout games by far.

Disagree...I wasn't crazy about NV and didn't play it very much, but FO3 was way more open then FO4 I thought

You're misremembering, that was a rollercoaster in the theme of a railroad.

I was a bit annoyed at the start of the game because I was getting beaten like a naughty egg, but once I found a combat shotgun or whatever it was, I started making mincemeat out of everyone.

I literally did none of the main story until 30 hours into New Vegas and I rarely died. The only problem I found was the Deathclaw pit and I just avoided that.

In FO4, I just feel like I'm encountering high level baddies when I'm out exploring and just die easily. It totally sucked the fun out of my experience. In previous games I could handle a Radscorpion. In FO4, I was murdered in 10 seconds by one who popped up off really close to the beginning of the game.

I thought the combat in FO4 was simple, almost too easy.  I don't think I used VATS more then a handful of times

I use VATS all the time, though I think the refresh rate is too slow. It like the HP nerf makes the game a lot harder than previous iterations.

Yeah. Even in close range sometimes the only way to get a clear shot is VATS or Jet.

One thing that DOES bug me about Fallout 4 though: Bleed damage affects robots. WHY.

so basically @RPS I'd argue the problem is more the difficulty spike than issues with railroading. It's harder; MUCH harder. But I welcome it. But as far as openness goes... you can sequence break the hell out of the first act and the first objective you MUST complete has multiple routes to reaching.

I always found these guys to be the most annoying enemy in Fallout New Vegas. I remember a few times where I wasn't paying attention, and one Cazador would suddenly appear in front of me - scaring the shit out of me.

Is it just me or did they nerf the Deathclaws in FO4? In New Vegas I only had a realistic chance against one was after I did all the DLC and reached the level cap. And even then I could only take on one of these fuckers. If there was more than one fully grown Deathclaw in the area they would still rip me to shreds. But in FO4 they don't seem like a big deal at all. A few rounds with a combat shotgun and they are done.
