January 2017 Transfer Window Thread

No good has ever come from chairmen/owners frequenting Twitter. Look at Fawaz at Forest or Peterborough's chairman Darragh McAnthony. He's actually been a good owner for them but has been at odds with the fans due to Twitter spats and the like.

Everton expect to complete a £10m deal for Charlton's 19-year-old forward Ademola Lookman early in the January transfer window.

Director of Football Steve Walsh has made the signing a priority and the move is likely to go through quickly as manager Ronald Koeman starts what is expected to be a busy January.

Lookman scored his seventh goal of the season in Charlton's 1-0 win at MK Dons on Boxing Day.

He was also linked with Crystal Palace.

Everton - with Walsh a key figure - are embarking on a policy of recruiting emerging young talent as well as established players.

The Toffees signed teenager striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Sheffield United for £1.5m in August and the England youth international has figured as a substitute against Arsenal and Liverpool recently.

Charlton had hoped Everton would loan Lookman back to them for the rest of the season but he is seen as someone who could quickly play a part at Goodison Park.

Koeman will also bid to tie up a move for Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin in a deal that will cost around £20m.

Schneiderlin has been told he can leave Old Trafford by manager Jose Mourinho and Everton also have a strong interest in Koeman's fellow countryman Memphis Depay.

The Netherlands attacker is also surplus to requirements under Mourinho.

Shanghai SIPG's general manager has clarified that Oscar's fee was €60m (£52m), not £60m. So you know, the usual thing.

Still, lovely. And a new club record (just surpassing what we sold Luiz for in 2014).

Incidentally, I did laugh when I saw the Top 10 transfer fees Chelsea have ever received and Tore Andre Flo to Rangers for £12m back in 2000 still makes the cut.

Whereas we've sold 10 players from 09/10 that have been 12mil or higher in terms of fees received.

Think that shows that you've managed to have a strong core in the squad for several years like you signed the likes of Lampard, Cech, Drogba and kept them for pretty much the chunk of their career. But you've had players at the time who weren't breaking into the team that you've managed to sell for large amounts of money such as De Bruyne and Lukaku.

Atalanta have rejected a €25m offer from Chelsea for Franck Kessié, with the Ivorian midfielder’s agent claiming there is also interest from several other Premier League sides including Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Kessié, who spent last season on loan at Cesena, has been in outstanding form as Atalanta have risen up to sixth place in Serie A after 18 games. The 20-year-old has scored six goals in 16 appearances, leading to comparisons with a compatriot, Yaya Touré.

Kessié has been be selected in the provisional Ivory Coast squad for the African Nations Cup this week having become a regular in Michel Dussuyer’s side in recent months. A proposed move to Sunderland in August broke down after he was denied a work permit but his new status as a regular international and one of the highest-rated young midfielders in Italy should mean that is no longer an obstacle to any move to England.

Chelsea are keen to find a replacement for the Brazil international Oscar, who completed his move to Chinese Super league side Shanghai SIPG for £52m this week. However, Kessié’s agent George Atangana has confirmed that their initial bid was rejected by Atalanta, who are thought to value their prized asset at around €40m (£34m).

“We have a lot of interest from the Premier League – Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal,” he told Guardian sport. “I cannot say at this stage how much he will cost but we are talking about one of the best young players in the world. But for us the most important thing is that the technical project is the right one for him. Franck is very young so we have to be very careful about his development.

“Chelsea are very interested and it is a great club but we must take our time to consider all the options,” Atangana, who will meet Stamford Bridge officials in London next week, added. “Now we are in January so he has to play at the African Nations Cup for Ivory Coast so I am not going to rush anything.”

Manchester United will not make a move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof during the January transfer window. United manager Jose Mourinho was reported to be interested in the 22-year-old Sweden centre-back. However, BBC Sport understands the form of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo in central defence has persuaded manager Jose Mourinho he does not need to buy.

Ronny isn't motivated by money, he's motivated by sticking it to Messi and he won't be able to do that playing with Marlon Harewood at Fuli.
