    Bob Dylan

I saw him live -- I think it was last summer -- with Elvis Costello and while I am a big fan of both the latter was great, and the former was shit.
  2. While we are on the subject of the Statham Man Crush here is something Patton Oswald wrote on the subject...
  3. This. I will listen to them without protest if a friend plays a song by them or if they pop up on the radio, but I've never sought out there music. They are a decent band but ultimately I just can't get behind them all that fervently.
  4. HOW EVER DID YOU GET THAT ONE, FOOTJOB?
  5. Dolores Erickson. I never knew her name before today, but I learned a lot of what I know about being a man from that album cover.
  6. 1. Chewing out a rhythm on my bubble gum, the sun is out and I want some. 2. See me in me heels and ting, dem check say we hip and ting. 3. I'm a flea bit peanut monkey, all my friends are junkies--thats not really true! 4. Life is a blast when you know what you're doin, best to know what you're doin 'fore your life get ruined. 5. She lives on love street. Love Street by the Doors. 6. This song is dedicated to the United States Navy... 1234. 7. Anxious nights give way to daylight, she don't cry and she don't complain. 8. Come away with me my little delta boy, I wanna be your delta mama for awhile. 9. Oh please don't you think baby that I am wrong to cry, yeah. 10. All right, all right! I hope you son of bitches see the light!

Chino of the Deftones and... Mr. Willis.
  8. In terms of Springsteen covers, there is a great album called Light of Day. It is a two disc collection and I think it was for some sort of Jersey based charity, but it is a real gem. It has some heavy hitters like Elvis Costello covering Brilliant Disguise, Pete Yorn doing an amazing cover of New York City Serenade, and covers by Billy Bragg, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, Steve Wynn, The Clarks, and a few other folks of note. Nils Lofgren (long time E-street/Crazyhorse guitar man) does a nice cover of man on the top, and there is a great cut of Downbound Train by Kirk Kelly. The real stand out, however, is an ethereal cover of Something in the Night by Matthew Ryan. Definitely check this last one out.
  9. I just finished Foot Fist Way. It wasn't anything spectacular but it had me cracking up in a lot of parts. Ultimately, I think Danny McBride is a lot better in the bit parts that we've seen him picking up since his debut indy flick. His shtick can only go so far. 3/5

    Mix tape.

If I Needed You by Townes Van Zandt, one of the most honest and beautifully written love songs ever written.
  11. This week I watched Heroes from season 1 up to where they are now in season three. Ah, the wonders of no longer working 18 hour campaign days. Similarly, over Thanksgiving break when the Election wrapped up I watched Arrested Development in its entirety despite never watching it whilst on air.

    Rambo 5

The last Rambo movie was the most pleasing movie theater experience I've had in years. I went into the film expecting some gory fun and that is what Sly delivered. The movie never crossed too far into the cheese territory, and it never took itself SUPER CEREAL either. The minute I walked in someone blew up, and I knew that the movie would be well worth the price of admission. That being said, I am not sure how I feel about revisiting the story. I felt like seeing the disillusioned Rambo return home to give America/humanity one more chance, walking towards the same home he was trying to get to when he was thrown off path in the first film was a nice ending for the character. I am excited for The Expendables, and I am all for Sly using his NuAction film formula to entertain me for as long as he can find HGH, but I am just not sure if another Rambo is the way to go.
  13. 5. Super Taranta by Gogol Bordello Frenetic, hectic, energetic and... and ethnic? How about: Gypsy. Super Taranta! is the latest effort from Eugene Hutz and his merry band of gypsy punks. With the energy of Iggy Pop's best work, and more old country sound than you can shake a stick at Gogol Bordello is everything that rock and roll should be. This album is relevant and irreverent all at once. 4. …Burn, Piano Island, Burn by The Blood Brothers ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn is the third full-length studio album by the American post-hardcore band The Blood Brothers and perhaps their finest outing. I think Henry Rollins put it best when it comes to the band and the unique racket they make, "The Blood Brothers make music that will save us all." 3. Lateralus by Tool Remember when Tool released their masterpiece? Well, believe it or not one of the 90's quintessential bands released their discography's crown jewel in 2001. 2. Revolutionary Volume 2. by Immortal Technique An album that lives up to the hype of its title, R2 is already considered to be a classic hip hop album and rightfully so. Humorous, socially topical, and relentless with his message Immortal Technique used this album to cement his place as the torch carrier for artists like Public Enemy and KRS-One. 1. Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards by Tom Waits That is right! Grifter picked a Tom Waits album as the best album of this decade! SURPRISE SURPRISE! Well, step back from my relentless love of the man and take the album in as a whole. The prolific songwriter recorded 30 original songs for this album. Oh, and there are 54 songs total that sprawl across three discs-- each with their own feel and character. Each disc is like a different chapter in the same book, and contains all the gritty characters you'd expect from the poet laureate of the gutters and alleys.
  14. 1. The Hulk 2. Wolverine 3. Punisher 4. Iron Man 5. Thing 6. Thor 7. Cannonball 8. Apocalypse 9. Dr. Doom 10. Gambit
  15. Motorhead covering What A Wonderful World. "IIIIIII SEE SKIIIIIIEHS OF BLUEEEEEEE-UGH, RED ROSEHS TO-UGH!"
  16. The Violent Femmes self-titled album. A great album for injecting some energy into a pretty monotonous day at the office.
  17. I've been on a major Townes Van Zandt kick this week. My assistant director had never heard any of him despite being a big Lightning Hopkins fan so I took it as my responsibility to introduce him to TVZ. Needless to say he loves him, and ever since we've been going through what I deem to be the best of the best. Today I am in the office alone, so I am going in another direction-- Motorhead for 3 glorious hours.
  18. Last Wednesday Peter Benchley's (the writer of Jaws) wife Wendy donated a bunch of money to my office. This brings my celebrity donation record to Stephan and Evelyn Colbert, some asshole from Melrose Place, a NY Ranger from the team that last won the cup, and Wendy Benchley.

  20. Should have bought Troy >_>
  21. Well, it looks like seeing Iggy play live with the Stooges is never going to get crossed off my bucket list. I've seen the Iguanaman, but everyone knows there is something special about the Stooges backing him and Asheton was a big part of that.
  22. I saw a For Your Consideration copy of this earlier in the week and it gets a big ol' thumbs up from Grifter. Rourke's performance was rock solid and lived up to every bit of the hype. Tomei did really well, and Evan Rachel Wood managed to make me give a fuck about her acting for the first time... well, ever. Also... Spoiler: Click here to viewErnest Miller had a surprising large speaking part and Necro Butcher came across really well too.
