A transfer means that a player signs a new contract with a new club, usually in exchange for a sum of money (though there are lots of additional clauses available and it can include players being traded instead of money). A loan is a temporary move where the receiving club agrees to pay a set amount of the player's existing contract in exchange for borrowing the player for a set amount of time. The player returns to their club at the end of the loan deal. This works best if you can't afford a full transfer, are managing a lower league club and want to "borrow" a promising youngster from a big team, or want to give the player a sort of "trial run" before considering a permanent transfer. You can include future fee clauses when submitting a loan request that means the original club have to accept an offer of that amount, if they choose to accept the loan offer at all. There's a comprehensive search function which means you can narrow players down to precise details if you chose to do so.

1st: Trainspotting It's gritty, the characterisation of major characters is brilliant, and the way their interpersonal relationships evolve over the course of the film is brilliant. I haven't seen the sequel yet, and I've heard it's underwhelming, but I'm not sure anything could've matched the original. 2nd: Some Like It Hot Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon have the perfect chemistry and play off the other characters really well. The Great Race also features the duo and is similarly enjoyable. 3rd: Leon Gary Oldman as the psychotic cop is THE perfect movie villain. The father/daughter relationship cultivated between Jean Reno and Natalie Portman feels a bit forced but Leon's character arc is better off for it, and it probably wouldn't have the same emotional gravitas without it. 4th: Back to the Future It's a classic, in a different way to some of the older films on my list, but possibly just because almost everyone has seen it and it's packed full of memorable scenes. The sequels aren't nearly as good but they do manage to tap into the great chemistry between the cast (except Danny Glover, who stands out even more in the first one as a result). 5th: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels Somehow combining the grit and comedy exceedingly well, every character in Lock, Stock gets what they deserve by the end of the film. 6th: The Wizard of Oz Probably my all-time favourite story alongside Alice in Wonderland. It's been adapted so many times but the Judy Garland version is the one that everyone knows. Tin Man is also a personal favourite in terms of the many adaptations. 7th: Die Hard Another 80s classic. It basically introduced Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman (even though it wouldn't have been the first movie I saw either in), who are both brilliant in almost all of their roles. Hans Gruber would probably be #2 in my all-time movie villains list behind Norman from Leon. 8th: North by Northwest Something about this film just seems right. It flows incredibly well, building suspense and maintaining drama and has so many scenes that have been referenced since. Cary Grant is also a brilliant lead actor. 9th: Snatch Not as good as Lock, Stock but still a great movie. It basically feels like a sequel. It's probably also the only movie I actually like Brad Pitt in. 10th: The Princess Bride It's wacky, long-winded, and totally nonsensical at times, but it does it all so entertainingly that none of it matters.

The PTTS crew have done a few in Loughborough. In 2018, myself @9 to 5, @Matt, @K, and Berober successfully escaped a Gallery heist themed room. A second group also successfully escaped the following year. A group I can't quite remember the makeup of tried and failed on a magical forest-style room on that same 2019 weekend. I've also done all three rooms at the main Norwich escape room, their easy and medium rooms with a selection of wrestling friends, and the hard room with a friend and a guy he'd been dating but was planning on breaking up with, as a sort of "last hurrah come letting him down gently" thing after they'd spent most of their time together doing escape rooms. All of these were also unsuccessful but we were less than a minute away from escaping the medium room.

This begs the question of how many actually decent English managers have actually existed in that time. Hoddle's greatest achievement was FA Cup runner up with Chelsea, Keegan a second and third tier division winner, McClaren won the League Cup and runners up in the UEFA Cup with Middlebrough, and Hodgson also doing the latter with Fulham. Allardyce had nothing on his side except longevity and Southgate only really had experience with the national setup going for him. Who else is there? No English manager has won the Premier League and only two (Harry Redknapp & Joe Royle) have won the FA Cup in that time. There's a few more "modern" English League Cup winners but only Steve McClaren has done it since 1996, and he's the only England manager who failed to qualify for a major tournament in my lifetime.

In a hilarious update to this, I'm managing England now and Switzerland finished last in our Euro 2016 group after three losses, with just one goal scored (by Timm Klose against Croatia). The Swiss had topped our qualification group after tonking us 4-0, with Scotland qualifying via the playoffs and also somehow being drawn into the same main tournament group. I think Scotland topped the group on least goals conceded as three teams finished on 6 points, as well as both England and Scotland having +3 goal difference. We beat Scotland 3-2 before smashing Switzerland 3-0 when I decided to go with a flat 5-3-2. No European glory for England as, although we comfortably beat Ukraine in the second round, France won 2-1 aet in the quarters after Phil Jones got himself sent off in the 80th minute. I think I've only ever won the Euros once on any FM game, not sure why I struggle with it so much considering I've won the World Cup at least four times (including three times in a row with none other than Phil Jones as my captain) across multiple saves.

The Chelsea app is telling me we're linked with PSG's Thiago Silva on a free and that Atletico Madrid's Jose Giminez has spoken about his love for Chelsea in a recent interview. Both of them are central defenders so I'd be very happy with either of those going further, moreso the latter seeing as he's a decade younger. It also mentions Juve's Federico Bernardeschi. Not sure we need another winger.
