  1. Meh, I was bored so I thought I'd update this thread a little bit, since it's the only thing I have going for me in The Ring. According the Ken Shamrock's official website, kenshamrock.com (duh), Ken vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin on the April 9th Ultimate Fighter finale show on Spike TV has been signed. The fight will be at Light Heavyweight limit, making this Ken's second fight in that weight class (his first was against Tito Ortiz at UFC 40). The casual fan or observer has more than likely never heard of Rich Franklin, so here is a bit of info on him. He fights primarily at the 185 lb weight class, but if my memory serves me correctly, he has fought at 205 before (not 100% sure about that). Ace is an extremely well rounded fighter who is versed in both submissions and striking, both stand up and ground. He has three UFC fights under his belt, along with three wins to go with them. His last UFC appearance was at UFC 50 when he made Jorge Rivera tap to an armbar. Franklin has an overall MMA record of 16 wins, 1 loss, no draws, with 2 wins by knockout, 6 wins by technical knockout, and 9 wins by submission. A convincing win could launch Rich into the top ranks of the UFC in either the Middleweight or Light Heavyweight classes. A loss for Ken and I doubt we'd see him much of at anymore in the UFC, not like we've seen much of him the past few years anyways. If all goes as planned, Rich should get the win here and possibly make huge waves in UFC. Advantage goes clearly to the younger, more well rounded, better conditioned Rich "Ace" Franklin. Bottom line, as much as I respect Ken, Franklin is a much better fighter then he is, at the 205 mark for sure, and hopefully the MMA Gods will let Rich win in the same manner Tito did and send Shammy on the road to his much needed retirement and Ace on the road to title contention. Also, a little more on the April 9th finale of TUF... I was glancing over the rumors and unofficial news page on MMA Weekly and saw this...
  2. I haven't seen the commerical in months now, but wasn't it Purple Haze? I think it was. It was for sure, because I remember the accordian version of it in the commercial.
  3. Anti-Flag I suggest them to pretty much anybody looking for a punk band since they're one of my favorite bands. I say give them a try. EDIT: I can't stand that Drive-Thru Records shit. Finch, New Found Glory, ack.
  4. What is the purpose behind this show? I've never even heard of it before. Is it like Pimp My Birthday or something?
  5. The best finish to any wrestling match I've ever been in was from No Mercy. Tag team ladder match between me and my buddy (Me, Austin and him, Angle) vs. the computer (Jericho and The Rock). Rocky gets special and Rock Bottoms Angle, then sets up the ladder under the belt. Meanwhile, I'm outside kicking the shit out of Jericho with a steel chair. I see Rock is setting up the ladder, slide into the ring, give him a few chairs shots before getting special. I Stunner Rock once, then go to climb the ladder. Just as I reach the top, Jericho makes his way into the ring and pushes the ladder over sending me crashing to the mat. Angle gets up, comes behind Jericho, and German Suplexes him onto the steel chair I used to beat both Rock and Jericho with. Angle picks him up again, this time he German Suplexes him onto the ladder. Rock is now back up and makes his way over to Angle, back grapples, but Angle reverses into another German Suplex onto the ladder. I set up the ladder in the center of the ring, while my buddy is taunting like there is no tomorrow and continues to beat the shit out of Rocky with the chair. As I start to climb the ladder, Angle gets special and once again as I reach the top, Jericho tries to spoil the fun. Luckly, Angle stops Jericho and whacks him with the steel chair. Angle hits the Angle Slam on Jericho at the exact same time I grab the belt and Jericho and I nearly hit the mat at the exact same time.... Classic. No Mercy is awesome.
  6. 1) Yes. 2) I dunno about endless seasons, but it certainly doesn't end after one season.
  7. The best character in the movie is Kronk (voiced by the guy who played David Puddy on Seinfeld). He was hilarious.
  8. *puts Lindsay Lohan's number on his phone* You know, just incase.
  9. Naw, PRIDE just hasn't added new profiles in a while, at least on the english side of things. It's just a lack of maintaining the profiles sections on both the K-1 and PRIDE sites. PRIDE has fighters on profile that haven't fought there for years.
  10. Bringing this topic back from the dead, baby! PRIDE 29: Fists of Fury went down early this morning... well, this morning in my local time. *****f you plan on watching the PPV spoiler free on the delayed showing (which is in like 5 or 6 days or something) don't read ahead.***** **************PRIDE 29: Fists of Fury results************** from Saitama Super Arena Mario Sperry over Hiro Yokoi by TKO (knees) at 9:08 of the 1st round Fabricio Werdum over Tom Erikson by submission (choke) at :11 of the 1st round Mauricio Rua over Hiromitsu Kanehara by TKO (stomp) at 1:40 of the 1st round Igor Vovchanchyn over Yoshiki Takahashi by KO (punch) at 1:10 of the 1st round (apparently it was a highlight reel KO) Kazuhiro Nakamura over Stefan Leko by TKO (strikes) at :54 of the 1st round Sergey Kharitonov over Choi Mu Bae by KO (punches) at 3:24 of the 1st round Kiyoshi Tamura over Aliyev Makhmud by TKO (strikes) at 7:09 of the 1st round Antonio Rogerio Nogueira over Alistair Overeem by judges decision (3-0) after 3 rounds Quinton Jackson over Murilo Rua by judges decision (2-1) after 3 rounds Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic over Mark Coleman by KO (punches) at 3:40 of the 1st round the crowd size was said to be decent, not exactly sure what that means though. Anyhoooo, this show played out exactly like it was meant to be, not one single upset in the bunch (save for maybe Werdum over Erikson, but not really). Werdum makes himself known by taking out a beast in Erikson, Igor KO's Takahashi early and in impressive fashion showing he is ready for the MW Grand Prix, Kharitonov continues to makes waves in the heavyweight division, home grown favorite Tamura gets a win, Lil' Nog continues to establish himself as one of the up and coming middleweights, Quinton Jackson gets the nod by the majority of judges over a tough Chute Boxe competitor in Ninja Rua, and Mirko's road to the Heavyweight Championship goes on as he knocks out Coleman with ease. All in all, everyone who needed to win did win. Most importantly Igor, Quinton, and the man who needed it the most, Cro Cop. Now I'm not a Cro Cop fan, but given the times right now, DSE/PRIDE need a big name to rely on in the heavyweight division. A loss to Coleman would have been terrible, not only for Mirko, but for PRIDE as they need to keep his star power going so there is somebody in the heavyweights that can draw and be a convincing headliner. Who knows how long these contract disputes could last.... ***************************************************** End of spoilers...
  11. The only Disney movie I can sit through now is The Emperor's New Groove. I think it's hilarious. Well, as hilarious as a Disney animated flick can be. My favorite Disney movie growing up, though, was Robin Hood. I haven't seen it in like 10 years now, but I remember the part at the archery competition when all hell breaks loose being extremely funny, at least it was back then. I have it on tape somewhere and if I had a VCR right now, I'd watch it just to see that part. I have the book too. It's big ass book (like it's size I mean)... It's stored away I think. Unless my mom gave it away. I hope not, I loved that book almost as much as the movie.
  12. Say what you want about hockey failing in Minnesota.... they're obviously doing something right, enough to put up strong attendence numbers at least. Can't argue with Atlanta, though. No solid fan support at all, unlike the Wild.
  13. I always thought Ice Cube was the best of the bunch. One of my favorites. As I don't like a lot of rap these days, except for a few artists, I still listen to his older shit all the time.... actually, that's a lie.. I listen to all his shit. He gets a lot credit, no doubt, be he is often past on when people talk about the greatest. I don't think he is the greatest, but IMO, he is up there. I stand behind "Ghetto Vet" being one the best rap songs ever.
  14. Yeah, D.O.C. wrote the majority of Eazy-Duz-It. He also wrote the majority of NWA's Straight Outta Compton album.
  15. As for the Paul is dead bit... I wouldn't surprise me. If you look hard enough, there are quite a few subtle instances inside the Beatles world that hint to Paul being dead. It was most likely done by the Beatles themselves to poke fun at the conspiracy theorists that believe that Paul McCartney died in a car wreck and he was replaced by somebody who looked and sounded identical to him. I had a teacher that was a diehard Beatles fans and showed us a bunch of shit... For example, in Strawberry Fields Fovever, there is a part at the end (IIRC) that was supposed to be something like "Cranberry Sauce" but if you listen it can also sound like "I Burried Paul". (Remember the episode of the Simpsons when Homer becomes a hippie, during the end credits Homer sings Uptown Girl and the very end of the credits he says "I BURRIED FLANDERS!"... Just thought I bring that up just incase people wonder what that was all about) There also some hints on the Sgt. Peppers album, but I can't remember them all. The most obvious one is on the cover.... There is a guitar outlined with flowers on the grave setting, but is placed in the opposite direction, like how a left handed person would play a guitar... Paul McCartney played left handed... (not sure if that came out right, but you get the idea). Also, if you take the album cover and put something thin and reflective in the middle of the bass drum were it says "LONELY HEARTS", there is supposedly some kind of hint there, but I can't remember what it was.
  16. God, If I have to watch one more Sports Centre (Canadian) with Brian Burke on the lockout panel, I will go nuts! I can't stand the guy. He leaves me begging for Pierre McGuire's input... that's how much he annoys me. I watch SC every morning, but as soon as that damn lockout panel comes on, I switch to The Score as quick as possible. How many times can you repeat the same damn thing over and over and over and over again!?!? Once a week, fine... but every single morning! ARGH! I bet TSN will STILL find a way to get them back on the show every morning... Any minor thing, even something that is very loosely NHL related (hell, it doesn't even have to be related to hockey at all) and BAM! A 10 minute segment featuring the usual gang of doofies rambling about the same thing they did the day before! I KEEEEL YOU! It's exactly like on Family Guy's take on Murphy Brown... Glenn Healy: Blah blah blah blah, Gary Bettman blah blah salary cap blah Brian Burke: Blah blah blah blah 24% rollback blah blah Bob McKenzie: Blah blah blah LOCKOUT blah blah Bob Goodenow
  17. Ha, being a die hard Leaf fan it's against my religion to NOT dislike Philly, Ottawa, New Jersey, and to lesser extent, the Islanders. I'm not really bashing any teams, it's the way sports works... Hell, I'll admit it right now, Philly beat the shit out of us in most of last years playoffs (even the games we won). Everyone knows light hearted trash talking between rival fanbases is all good. I have nothing against the Capitals. I just don't feel right hating a team at the bottom of the barrel. Even when they were playoff regulars I had nothing against them. Everyone hates the Rangers though, it's human nature. EDIT: Bah, forgot a key word in there....
  18. Oh God.... Two teams coming out of Long Island would almost be as bad as two teams coming out of Philadelphia... and the only time that will happen is when Hell overcrowds and Satan sends his rejects to Philly to form another hockey organization. Surprisingly enough, that's how the Flyers were formed....
  19. You shut your mouth. You shut your filthy fucking mouth and never open it again. ←
  20. The Whalers were hardly a great team. Oh, and the Minnesota North Stars moved to Dallas to become the Stars.
  21. I know I already suggested a few albums, but I suggest you listen to as much Public Enemy as possibly.
  22. I'm all for wiping out at least two teams. If I was to choose only one team it would be Anaheim. They're dead in the water, IMO. Even if they have strong season here and there to get the fans behind them going into the playoffs, they'll ignore them at the first sign of weakness. With the money they've wasted on only a few decent seasons, this would be my choice team to wipe out. Overall, I would feel much better if at least one of these teams ceased to exsist... Anaheim, Carolina, or Florida. Though I think it's unfair to give up on a team as young as Nashville, who should promise last season from an on ice point of view, I wouldn't really be that upset if they vanished either. They won't though. Out of all the teams in boiling hot water, they're one team I think will stay afloat for at least a little while longer. On the flipside, talking about Pittsburgh's woes is sad. Here's a team that won back to back Cups just over a decade ago and are now struggling to survive. It's sad when a team that was one of the best teams in the 90's looses less money by NOT playing, then it does if they were. I dunno what to say. It's upsetting. I don't think we'll see Washington folding, but it is possible. I don't believe Phoenix folding anytime soon. They'll be hit by the lockout, no doubt, but they'll survive. Columbus seems to have found their groove for now and actually has developed a strong fanbase. I was surprised by their attendence numbers, I never knew they were that high. Minnesota is staying strong, but that's no surprise really. It's well known they have a large, dedicated circle of fans. The latest expansions were a pretty good deal by the looks of it.... If only the NHL had a time machine so they could rid the league of Florida, Anaheim, Nashville, and Atlanta before they came in. That's my two cents.
  23. AC/DC - Not a fan, but they have a lot of killer tunes Slayer - Don't know too much about them but they must be doing something right Metallica - Love them, regardless of opinions of other people, I think they are one of the greatest metal bands out of the 80's Megadeth - Not a big fan, but they do have good stuff Pantera - see above Iron Maiden - Haven't really heard much of their material, but what I have heard I liked Def Leppard - Solid band, a lot of good tracks Led Zeppelin - legends, when of my favorite classic rock groups The Beatles - not a fan, but I can appreciate what they did The Who - Great fucking tunes, granted I've only heard their more popular songs... but I loved them Elvis Presley - See The Beatles Papa Roach - They have some catchy tracks, but I'm not a fan of theirs Limp Bizkit - I was a Bizkit follower back in the day and loved them back then, so it would be hypocritical to say that I don't like them Linkin Park - Get too much flak... Tunes of catchy tracks and I give them credit for what they are doing Korn - I was once a big Korn junky, nowadays not so much. I love their first few albums up to Issues, but I haven't really liked them since Deftones - Kind of indifferent. They have songs I really REALLY like, but then they also have some that I don't Meat Loaf - Only heard less than a hand full of tunes so I can't really judge Arch Enemy - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion In Flames - see above Soilwork - see above again Opeth - I've heard OF them, but not their music. If I have heard one of their songs I didn't know it was them... no opinion Distillers - No offense to their fans, but I can't stand them Meshuggah - once again, see the last few bands before the Distillers Dillinger Escape Plan - Ok, not my taste though Fear Factory - They have some pretty good tracks Tool - see Deftones A Perfect Circle - see Tool... then see Deftones Massive Attack - see Opeth Chemichal Brothers - Enjoy a lot of their stuff. I wouldn't call myself I fan, but I do like some of their tunes Van Halen - Don't like them, but don't hate them REM - They have a couple of songs I like, but not my type of music Nirvana - I really don't think they are as great as some make them out to be, but I do think they were very good at what they were doing RHCP - Used to be a big fan, but I've gotten kind of tired of their style recently. Still, they are pretty solid for what they are worth Soundgarden - Really good band, great tunes. Not a big fan, but still awesome Alice In Chains - see Soundgarden Manowar - See Opeth Pearl Jam - Good band, not many bands can make a song mean something like they can Smashing Pumpkins - Good, they have many songs I enjoy... but Billy Corgan's voice gets to me sometimes Mastodon - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Audioslave - Like them very much... really solid band, good tunes Guns And Roses - Great band, well, they were in their prime... great, catchy, classic tunes Velvet Revolver - I'm a huge fan of Scott Weiland, so by default, I'm a fan of anything he is involved with Muse - Not bad, I don't really like them as a band, but I don't have anything against their music Ash - see Opeth The Killers - Can't stand them, something about their two singles that annoy the hell out of me Machine Head - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Marilyn Manson - The instrumentals in his songs are awesome, but I hate his voice Emperor - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Sepultura - Haven't a lot of them, but from what I've heard they are solid Faith No More - Again, I haven't heard a lot of their tracks, but Epic is one of my favorite songs of all time U2 - They have some really good tunes, but not a fan... however, I can appreciate there music for what it's worth Libertines - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion System Of A Down - One of my favorites, awesome, awesome, AWESOME.... I love the way Serj sings the lyrics Joy Division - Only heard a few tracks, pretty good though The Smiths - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion The Streets - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Morrissey - See Opeth Foo Fighters - I like them, nothing really special though Mars Volta - Heard a few tracks.. They're ok, not bad, but not in my taste Snoop Dogg - Used to be a big Snoop fan, but IMO he's gotten tiresome Eminem - Not really a fan, but I like most of his music Ja Rule - I like him back in 99 when he first hit it big, but I can't stand him now Jay-Z - One of my favorites... I think he is legendary, but I don't force that statement down anybody throats, just my opinion Tupac - When he wasn't infatuated with dissing the East Coast he was simply one of the greatest of all time Eric Clapton - Legend.... One of the greatest acoustic guitat players ever, IMO Norah Jones - I know who she is... I know she has a shit load of Grammy awards from last year..... But I don't think I've ever heard one of her songs Bob Dylan - Awesome... He has some classic tunes under his belt Nine Inch Nails - Love 'em... Great sound, NIN's music always comes out as very personal and emotional, yet harsh... which I love David Gray - See Opeth Jeff Buckley - See Opeth again Tom Waits - See Opeth AGAIN! Depche Mode - Many of their tunes are a guilty pleasure of mine... not my style, but they have some catchy shit Nightwish - Solid, though I've only heard a handful of theire tunes, mainly because people compare them to Lacuna Coil all the time Lacuna Coil - Speak of the Devil... I love Lacuna Coil. Cristina's mesmerizing vocals really add to their music. Her voice is angellic in a dark sort of way (and she's smokin' too). I'm generally not too fond of Goth Metal, but Lacuna Coil is the mighty exception New Order - The name makes me think of New Edition... never heard their music before, no opinion My Dying Bride - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Coldplay - They have some good tracks, but they are not my type of music at all Keane - Haven't heard any of their stuff before, no opinion Stone Temple Pilots - One of my all time favorites. I go through phases in which the only thing I can listen to is STP. Bush -... Have fallen off the map. Seriously, what the hell happened? They only thing Gavin is known for now is being Gwen's husband. Back on topic, they were really good back in their day, one of my first favorite bands HIM - I don't like them, something about their music rubs me the wrong way Slipknot - Meh, not a fan... I'll admit I do enjoy some of their music, but nothing special, IMO The Clash - Amazing, just amazing. I could listen to London Calling all day long The Sex Pistols - Not really up on their stuff, but I think they are really good from what I've heard Green Day - Will always be one of those bands that are just there. Nothing about them stands out to me or makes them any better or any worse then other bands, but I do enjoy the occasional Green Day track once a week NOFX - Great band, I enjoy their work very much... They have done some awesome covers as well Rancid - Pretty ok, not really a band I'd go out of my way to listen too, but don't mind them Beastie Boys - Great lyricists, catchy beats. Vocals can be slightly annoying at times, but I can look past that. All in all, pretty amazing. Icons whether you like them or not Notorious B.I.G - Was never really a fan, but I do like the majority of the material he put out. I can appreciate what he did RATM - One of my favorites. Awesome instrumentals, awesome lyrics, just overall amazing.... How can you listen to an RATM song and not feel obligated to yell along with Zach or even simulate Tom's solos with your mouth and air guitar? YOU CAN'T! 36 Crazyfists - Another favorite... They just have this fresh, different sound to them. The vocal work is great, IMO, and many of their songs are extremely well done. They are a mix of numetal, metal and borderline punk... that can turn people off, but they do it to perfection. Throw in the vocals and you've got a band with a kind of unique sound to them Killswitch Engage - Really good tunes, enjoy them very much Whew.. I can't believe I finished that whole thing...
