Enter Blue Guy
I don't know, I'd say Hermes has got him beat. An example of a Hermes Franca pre-fight interview. "I'm going to take him down, you know? Look for a submission, you know? Make him tap, you know? Then I'll win, you know? And I'll get a title shot, you know?" ACCBiggz
Eh, I like Hermes but I do think the strength factor will play a big part. Plus I don't think Sherk is going to be caught by the Hermes windmill punch o' doom.

ACCBiggz
Sherdog is probably right on the Aurelio fight, but that came from his myspace I believe. But anyway, having Aurelio as a member of the UFC is awesome.
Fitzy
Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch Expected at UFC 76 Marcus Aurelio vs. Tyson Griffin at UFC 76 Sherdog is saying Aurelio/Guida at UFC 74. Also you can probably add Chris Leben's last UFC fight against Mike Swick to UFN 11 in August or September.
ACCBiggz
He was and probably is, but he has a loss to Leben and on the show Leben kept reminding him. So I'm sure Swick still wants that rematch with him.
Fitzy
Yeah and it was a good fight so I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch. I am kind of surprised it never happened anyways, but it would be quite interesting to see Swick avenge his lose and be the one to give Leben his third lose in a row which probably would send him out of UFC for a while since it is his last contracted fight. Well, the question is, even if it would be his third lose in a row, would UFC try to get him to sign again or would they let him go and maybe bring him back if he starts winning again?
ACCBiggz
Probably, because before his last loss he was complaining about his contract and talking about going to Hawaii's ICON organization for better money. Then he went and lost again.
Enter Blue Guy
Leben said that if doesn't get the money he thinks he deserves, he's going to sign with ICON. Hawaii isn't Japan, but the competition is still a bit easier. EDIT: Beaten to it. I had a coffee related incident and my keyboard is going banana right now. Enter Blue Guy
At the UFC 73 post-fight press conference, president Dana White made a couple of noteworthy announcements. Dana said that a rematch between Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans is likely. Both seemed to want the fight. No word on if it will be an immediate rematch or not, although Ortiz has one fight left on his deal now and can be stingy when it comes time to re-sign. There was more talk of a B.J. Penn vs. Sean Sherk fight for the UFC Lightweight title, which had been rumored before. As usual that all seems dependant on if Penn will remain at 155 lbs. Dana White mentioned the possibility of another Nogueira-rematch as he said if Mirko CroCop gets past Cheick Kongo at UFC 75, it will be Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Mirko CroCop II. I like it. -MMANews.com
ACCBiggz
Mentioned the Sherk/Penn in the predictions thread. Not sure if it was Dana or Sherk that confirmed it, but is scheduled for November. Also Silva/Franklin was confirmed for Cincinnati, UFC 77 (I think), October 20th. Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin - October 20th Sean Sherk vs. BJ Penn - November Nogueria vs. Cro Cop - Unknown (based on Cro Cop beating Kongo) And UFC 76 (the second PPV in September in California) will have Chuck Liddell's next fight as confirmed by Dana White. He said it isn't completed yet but they have a major opponent for Chuck. Common sense would suggest Wanderlei, but also Shogun is making his debut at 76 so it could be either one as Dana has said Shogun is already a contender, so it could be a #1 contenders bout. Oh and EBG... stop planning for the Montreal UFC event.... it's on hold again. Dana said at the press conference last night they were having trouble getting a date at the Bell Centre due to the upcoming hockey season, and imo, I'd say they are waiting for a certain GSP to be available for a Montreal event to draw there. Enter Blue Guy
Thoughts on UFC 73... Not sure what was going through Heath's head when he backed out of Nog's guard when he dropped him with the head kick in the first. Nog's guard is dangerous, but he leaves himself open a lot and was already silly after taking that kick. Open guard, still dazed, Heath should have kept it going and that fight could have been stopped. Hey, if that was Herb Dean, it could've been a stoppage. Neither fighter showed a sense of urgency to finish the fight, but Nog is much more systematical rather than aggressive anyways. Nog didn't look great, but he did a nice job of recovering after the first and doing what he had to in order to get the decision. The 10 minute endurance round is gone, the fights are judged round by round, rather than as a whole, and they are 5 minutes shorter on top of that. So Nog can't be as content to stay on his back for long periods on time, take punishment on the bottom, and look for subs. Gone are the days of him taking a beating, outlasting his opponents, then battling back to take the fight. Not that this was his problem last night, the break after 5 minutes was key for his survival. I'm happy that Tito and Rashad will get to go at it again. I thought it was going to be along the lines of Tito vs. Vitor Belfort, but it was mostly a battle for position without many finishing opportunities. Tito had some nice takedowns, Rashad had a really nice one too, both did a tremendous job of avoiding the takedowns. Even though Rashad is an amazing wrestler, I was surprised his takedown defense was so effective against the much bigger Ortiz, and by the end of the fight you could tell Tito was spent from wrestling with Evans. The stand up was good when it was there. Nice guillotine at the end of the second by Tito, Rashad had the arm in and the buzzer went before it could get interesting. IMO, the real saved by the bell moment was at the end of the fight. Beauty takedown by Evans, gets side control and Tito was exhausted like I've never seen him before. That clinched the draw. Tito should have gotten the nod if it wasn't for the deducted point, but the end result, with Tito gassed out, it's really a testament to how hard of a time he had with Rashad. Should be really interesting when the rematch rolls around. I wouldn't be surprised if Tito changes his game plan next time to keep it standing more often and try to be more effective with strikes rather than wear himself out wrestling with Rashad. The champs looked good last night and I think Sherk got too much shit for his win last night. It wasn't exciting, but he worked very hard for 5 rounds and dominated a very tough opponent. He deserves a lot of credit and all challengers are going to have to be on their 'A' game to take the belt away from Sean. Silva was just incredible. This guy has just been a wrecking ball since he came to the UFC and I wish Rich Franklin good luck in Ohio, because Anderson Silva is in the prime of his career right now. Oh and EBG... stop planning for the Montreal UFC event.... it's on hold again. ACCBiggz
According to mmaweekly.com, Rua, a 205-pound Muay Thai specialist, is scheduled to start at UFC 76 on Sept. 22. White said Rua's most likely first opponent will be Ryoto Machida (10-0), though Griffin said he would like the fight. Shogun/Machida + Liddell/Wandy??? Fitzy
UFCJunkie now says that during this weekend, Dana White stated that it will be a unification match between Henderson and Jackson. It seems like every week it changes. Unification to non-title to only UFC title and now back to unification.

Enter Blue Guy
Oh yeah, it was also cool to see Sakurai in attendance on Saturday. Now that Diego/Fitch seems pretty much all but confirmed, it's nice to see Sakurai still appears to be returning to the Octagon. So if you have Diego/Fitch, GSP/Kos, Serra/Hughes... Karo isn't rumored to be fighting anybody. He was rumored to be fighting Fitch at one time and I haven't heard anything since... Karo/Sakurai could be spectacular. Orgasmically spectacular. Guest Takayamanofear
I just watched the fights and I want to say right now the biggest mistake in Heath Herrings career was going to team Golden Glory. He was at one time a great wrestler its like the dude forgot how to wrestle or win. He had every opportunity to beat Nog but he wanted to stand with.
Enter Blue Guy
Actually, he was the best when he went to Holland and trained with Golden Glory. Heath started training at Golden Glory before he started fighting in Pride, IIRC. Then in 2004 he moved to Vegas to train at the Las Vegas Combat Club and hasn't really been the same since. And on Saturday Marc Laimon was cornering him.
Fitzy
The Ultimate Fight Night that is rumored to have Swick vs. Leben on it is offically set for September 20th now which is the same night the sixth season of TUF begins. Also another rumored match is Din Thomas vs. Spencer Fisher. Also, it looks like the rematch between Evans and Ortiz will take place at UFC 77.
