I still dunno what to make of this 6 character storylines. I mean yeah there character individual and so you got 6 different storylines which it's self is a positive...But the thing is maybe i don't want to go CM Punk, Taker, Jericho, Cena, HHH or Batista/Rey Mysterio tag team i think the 6th one was.

I'm curious as to what the Mystery mode is as i hope that it will be like a season mode for normal characters.

I used to always get the Smackdown games around the time they came out but can't get excited this year after putting up with no vast major improvement in the past games i mean WHOPPEEE Jimmy Yang will be in the game and the Inferno match just doesn't look that amazing.

Probably just trade in some old games and maybe get this but otherwise looks like COD 5, Pro Evo 2009, Saints Row 2 and Gears of War 2 are the games for me to get for my Birthday and Christmas maybe add Fable 2 and Fifa 09

Kofi IS in - he's been revealed in the Smackdown countdown or whatever it's called over on IGN. They're revealing the roster piece by piece over there.

So I already know then who I am playing as on my first career mode.......i think last time around.

You'll be able to play him in the story mode right? although he's not really on the mic that much?

Wrong. You'll only be able to play six different stories. Punk, Jericho, HHH, Undertaker, Cena, Batista/Mysterio.

So no go on Kofi in storymode. Unless this 'mystery mode' that has yet to be revealed is some kind of story mode for other characters.

Thats really harsh. I mean, id play as Punk Jericho and HHH but i couldnt see me playing as Cena or Mysterio, nothing against those two, they're just not to my taste. It seems that this game yo yos so much though. For example, Smackdown 2 was great, then when the PS2 came out, the first Smackdown for that was poor, then they got better peaking with HCTP which I thought was a great game. Then they've kind of been so so for me but I have to say, i did enjoy the last one more than I did (i think part of the enjoyment may have been that i got it so cheap but i still enjoyed it). It was also the first time that I played the General Manager Mode properly and also managed to complete that. At the time, I had CM Punk as Champion and thought....yeah thats cool.........now when he came champion, i thought.....yeah not so cool.

I really hope they allow you more scope with other characters. Id rather them had different stories for a load of different characters with a smaller roster than a massive roster but the ability to do nothing with them bar singles competitions. At the very least, there must be some option to allow you to use your CAWs. May wait for this to come down in price!

This could be a very good thing or if anyone remembers the WWE Raw game for PC a very bad thing. The thing I like about releasing it on PC is the chance for add-ons and mods.

I just watched the "RIP Finlay" video on IGN.com, and I don't know how it's been in season mode for the latest games (last one I played was 2007), but after the match when Undertaker is doing his kneel taunt, the SmackDown! end credit logo comes up like in real life.

Thought that was a nice touch.

It's new for this year's version. I've also noticed that they added a few new lines of commentary. They're just as badly done as previous years (or nearly so) but at least they're not -exactly- the same as they've been in the past few years.

Granted it was nothing earth shattering, and the majority of the commentary IS the same. But at least they added -something- which is a slight step-up from last year when they added absolutely nothing.

Create a finisher seems cool....tag team dynamic looks like it could be interesting.

Only thing about CAF is that according to that interview with the developer...you won't be able to use struggle submissions in it. That would be fine, if they would allow tapouts to non-SS moves...but I don't know if that's the case.

I hated last year that maybe only 10 submission moves could result in submissions and the others were just there for damage. Ankle lock as a finisher was useless because it wasn't a struggle submission.

And I like the character specific storylines IF they still include a general storyline with text that has depth.

With the release for THQ's WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2009 fast approaching, the publisher has released a bunch of exclusive assets and info on the all-new Career Mode.

Career Mode will be open to all playable characters, including created Superstars, Divas and hidden characters. Exactly where players start will depend on which character is selected, but you'll begin on the first championship path. This requires moving to the top of the pecking order in in a group of contenders and getting a title shot at one of WWE's Pay-Per-View events. Everything from rosters to rules can be customized, and additional match types will be unlocked in new paths.

Players won't only be required to win, but will need to do so in style. Matches will be rated on a five-star scale, and a certain total number of stars are required to continue along the championship paths. Earning three stars in a bout is good, but higher ratings will require being involved in more exciting matches - stick to repetitive, consistent game plans and you won't get far.

Career Mode will feature 10 championships to earn, one is open to Divas and another is male exclusive, but the rest are open to all comers. Throughout the year special events will pop up, which if won could provide a fast track to a title shot.

The mode won't be entirely focused on winning championships, with character progression also being important. Superstars will start with modest attribute levels, with every match being an opportunity to gain experience across eight different areas: durability, strength, speed, submission, technical, stamina, charisma and hardcore. Each attribute score is combined to form an overall wrestler score. The experience will be a little different if players choose to create their own Superstar. Here special Superstar abilities will be unlocked, such as Submission Specialist and Move Theft.

Career Mode will also be packed full of statistics, offering records for wins and losses and stats such as finisher-per-match average, successful reversal percentage, time spent out of the ring and many more.

End-of-match awards will blend Superstar attributes with stats. If a player manually stops the referee's pin count four times in one match a Continue the Pain award will be given. This grants a one-time boost to a Superstar's charisma attribute. Going an entire match without striking earns the One Strike award and gives the Superstar a strength boost. There's approximately 100 awards hidden in the game.

You can see the new mode in action by heading over to the VideoGamer.com video player and if you head elsewhere you'll also find a bunch of new screen shots for PS3 and Xbox 360.

SmackDown vs Raw 2009 is scheduled for release on November 7.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Excellent news, looks like this year's game is shaping up to be really good. The customization of rosters in career mode is something I've been wanting back for ages too, and if created wrestlers are able to be included too as non-player wrestlers, all the better!
