I reiterate, DOOM Eternal is reallllllly good.

Mid game spoilers ahead:

Spoiler

At one point you're told 'you can't just shoot a hole through Mars' and then it comes up with the objective 'shoot a hole through Mars' and then five minutes late you shoot a hole through Mars'.

It is majestic.

Deus Ex: The Fall was next on my backlog and I didn't know it was a port of a friggin' iPad game.

Played like ass (I couldn't use my gamepad which wasn't too bad, but the gameplay was still full of jank), looked like... well, a tablet game, the story wasn't even finished because it was supposed to be episodic but I guess nobody got it at launch. It was like if you went to a concert for a band you like, only to find out that it's actually a tribute band, and on top of that there's no drummer, the guitarist just plays E chords to the tempo, and the singer doesn't know the lyrics to any of the songs.

Street Fighter 5 is next and hopefully the version on Steam isn't also a port of a tablet version too.

I have, yeah. It's less the lore and whatnot, more stuff like alchemy and oils and potions and fuckin gwent that baffles me.

I had this same problem, particularly once I ran up against werewolves for the first time and couldn't just stumble through things anymore. It feels like the difficulty curve of the game is honestly the steepest at the very start in the sense that you have no idea what the fuck you're doing, but once I got past the first few tough bosses it's started feeling a lot more like it takes care of itself and most of the stuff you rarely even need to fall back on.

As for Gwent, I pretty much got stomped a bunch until I found/bought some better cards from merchants, particularly the horn that lets you double the power of cards in a single row. Once you manage to get stuff together and can beat random shopkeepers, start going after the Bloody Baron and others who offer unique cards if you beat them.

Is this the full game then out on the 10th? I remember reading something about them doing it episodic or something.

It's basically everything from the Midgar portion of the original game, but expanded upon so in theory it's basically the length of a normal, $60 game even though it's not telling the full story of FFVII. Presumably the plan would be to do like three of them because in terms of the actual plot of the game Midgar takes up more than you'd think.

Ah OK cool. I think I'll hang off for a while to gauge peoples reactions to it. I loved FF7 it was the first rpg I ever played and I still haven't touched the demo yet so might just wait till its all available.

Touch the demo. It'll change your mind.

I'm holding out for an FF6 remaster myself.

Also is it just me or is Street Fighter 5 really really.... lacking in depth? I mean Street Fighter games have never been super technical but coming down from the surprisingly technical Mortal Kombat, SF just seems so... button mashy.

Also, Birdie comes off as a super racist caricature.

Completed Resident Evil 2 with Leon last night and going to start the B Side tomorrow.

Really enjoyed the game, and it definitely does the original justice and more

I liked the original Resident Evil 2 when I played It back in the day, but I thought it was predominantly tedious rubbish when I played it again years later.

The remake is, in my opinion, considerably better, although it still has some irritating holdovers from its source material, particularly in terms of the constant backtracking to complete padded-out puzzle sections. Mr. X is a good means of ramping up the tension, but he does get more annoying than scary after you work out his movement patterns.

If I'll give the remake the most credit for something, it's that it dispels the notion that the tank controls and fixed camera angles were essential in the original. The new control system gives you just as much of a feeling of helplessness without forcing horrible movement and awkward perspective on you for the non-combat sections.

The video game Borderlands 3 was a big sales success when it launched last fall, according to its publisher, 2K, which described it as “a billion-dollar global brand.” That’s why it was shocking to employees at Gearbox, the developer of the game, when the studio’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, told them yesterday that they would not receive the significant royalty bonuses they expected.

Employees at the studio will get small bonus checks, but nothing close to the tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands that many had expected. This account is based on conversations with six people close to Gearbox, all speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to talk about what happened. Some said it was crushing news that has upended their financial plans for the future.

I've been on nights this week so haven't had chance to put more time into Days Gone since last weekend. I'm well into the 2nd half of the game now and it's really fun to play. Granted, a lot of the Bounty/Ambush Camp missions feel a bit samey, but I'm engrossed in the story and the characters are quite memorable.

It's also on the PSN sale at the moment and you can spend £25 on a lot worse.
