I feel that Boston is slashing salary to be able to sign Hamilton and/or Greinke without going over the luxury tax. They're trying to clear out Theo's bad contracts for what they envision are good contracts. And in my opinion, signing big name players this offseson is part of that.

Wow, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, and Carl Crawford to LA? That's crazy. If they can come back to form (big if), it would be a huge haul for LA.

Much like the economy, they were struggling to find their footing following the Bush-era. Should Obama lose, all the progress will be lost.
