Dramatic moments in sport

The biggest moment in Los Angeles sports history...

If you're American, you already know what it is, if you aren't, you might still know it. Against the best closer in baseball, on one leg, having not played the entire game, Kirk Gibson goes yard, the Dodgers win game one, and go on to win the World Series against a stacked Oakland team. It's a classic call by Vin Scully, and has the iconic image of the brake lights of fans who left early stopping.

Tyus Edney goes coast to coast in 4.8 seconds to beat Missouri, and the Bruins go on to win their only NCAA Championship in the last 30+ years.

Big Shot Bob with the buzzer beater to beat the Kings.

0.4. Zero. Point. Four.

In the NBA, you are allowed to catch and shoot with 0.4 seconds on the clock. Derek Fisher does it, sinks the basket, and beats the hated San Antonio Spurs.

A Man City moment from when we were shit:

This was amazing, cheap tickets and it was just after I'd screwed up my knee so we were in the main stand, 3-0 and City down to 10 men, even Spurs couldn't fuck that up.... Such a great game to be at.

A couple of others I witnessed in person -

The greatest ever racehorse announces himself. People thought he'd win but normally he'd be sat behind the leaders before blowing them away towards the end so seeing him just come straight out and never really look back shocked everyone. Listening to the commentary you can hear the disbelief from the crowd.

One without a decent video is Shearers goal against Stevenage in the FA Cup at St James' Park. Big cheer from the Geordies, gasps of awe at the possible stop by Smith and then the delayed reaction from them when they realised it was given, only one man in that ground thought it was certainly in, the bloke with the whistle. Both games were dramatic with disallowed goals and action, it really could have gone either way but that one moment captures both games

One I wasn't at from the BBC list was the last Ryder Cup. This years is going to be such a damp squib compared to the brilliant last day turnaround. Although it's hard to call it a dramatic moment when it unfolds over hours.

I am severely disappointed that the Brentford-Rovers finale has already been posted :P. I scrolled through the entire thread before posting! That really was the most insane few minutes of sport in my life, to be there live and be on the winning side of it was simply incredible too.

I was going to post it and say that it's funny the Leicester-Watford one was discussed before our win at Brentford was. It happened a week after ours and ultimately counted for very little as Watford didn't get promoted in the end, whereas we did and took the title.

Funny nuance though - Michael Oliver was the referee in both of those games, on consecutive weekends. What the hell must he have been thinking when Deeney scored that goal?

I was going to bring up the Brentford one as well, I was working at the racecourse where nobody gave a fuck about A) any races B) getting any work done, everybody was stood there looking at the TVs and the place went mental at the end.

Haven't read through this whole thread (really, any of it :shifty: ), but the Tennessee Titans' whole '99 Super Bowl run was ridiculous. Between the "Music City Miracle" and "A Yard Too Short," it might be the nuttiest postseason run in NFL history.

To add to that, the Jacksonville Jaguars that year were 14-2, and beat Miami 62-7 in the divisional round, before losing in the Conference title game.

15-3 record. And all three losses were against the Titans!

Ahhh McNair, Eddie George, Frank Wycheck, the Dysons - I used to love the Titans as a second team of sorts, since that's when I really started getting into football. That was an awesome run they had, and McNair was a tough dude on the field. Shame he died the way he did, because you never heard anything bad about him up until that point.

Last I heard, his kid was playing QB at his alma mater, I forget what school it was, but it was a small, historically black college down south somewhere, I think.

Cavendish wins Milan-San Remo with a ridiculously staggering sprint finish.

Or when he goes past the other sprinters as if they were standing still in the last Tour de France stage of 2010.

I remember sitting in a bar in Spain when I was eight years old desperately wanting this match to go to penalties (I was an aspiring goalkeeper at the time and loved how good Seaman was at saving penalties, or maybe that was just my impression of him). Then this happened.

I've got a couple, The hands down most dramatic I was actually involved in but I'll have to try and find the footage.

But for now we've got these

Gold Coast kicks two goals in the last half minute including one after the bell to sink Richmond: http://youtu.be/cazCSHdF-Jw

Nick Davis kicks 4 unanswered goals to single handedly send Sydney into the semi final in 2005:

http://youtu.be/DvH5yPHOaVg

Any of Marcos Ambrose's NASCAR wins but this one in particular was some special on a crazy level:http://youtu.be/h2935lVdNEg

The one that the majority of you might have seen before, the Australia/Uruguay penalty shootout to decide who went to the 2006 World Cup: http://youtu.be/8pfdIztpOmQ

Here it is the final two plays of the 2011 National Championship game that finished 50-48: http://youtu.be/QEFcPmIJ3_A

The absolute craziest wildest game of football I've ever seen let alone have been apart of: For starters we weren't even supposed to be there in the first place, After two protests and a counter protest over the tiebreaker rules between the three teams that finished second we finally get to the game against the juggernaut Western Australia side that won it's two qualifying games by about 60 points combined, Despite holding home court we're the massive underdogs.

Then off the opening kickoff our guy takes it 90+ yards for the score... Then promptly gets ejected for fighting on the PAT >_>

So we proceed to go score for score for the entire game including both teams getting into the end zone inside the last two minutes before they drive down the field down by 8 and land on our 2 yard line with 2 seconds left - They lob one over the top to the TE for 6 but the inside run for 2 comes up short and the entire sideline rushes the field... I guess maybe you had to be there?

tl;dr - Slogger tells dramatic story about game he played in.
