Half the internet cheered at the demise of the EA Online pass, the other half gave grave warnings of what EA might be cooking up next. Today, have their worst fears been realised?

EA Access membership unlocks The Vault, a collection of EA’s biggest games on Xbox One ready for you to download and play. During the beta, gamers will have unlimited access to four great EA games: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4, with more titles being added soon. That’s over $100 worth of games for $4.99 a month. You can play these EA favorites as much as you want with the click of a button.

It sounds like they're expanding on the 'Season Ticket' thing they did for the sports games, still getting you the early access to stuff like FIFA, Madden etc but also back catalogue stuff too. Granted, you might argue that you might not really need FIFA 14 when you want to buy FIFA 15 but when the season ticket before was $25 a year and this will be $30, it's a nice little extra to have and it's a good way to branch out into unfamiliar sports without having to buy Madden 07 for a buck or something.

It is interesting to see something like this coming up in games though. Obviously, it might not be exactly comparable to Netflix or WWE Network or something since, one would assume that new releases would take at least a year to go into the vault, but it's still interesting to see more forays into this sort of thing.

I'll probably subscribe to that. FIFA and Madden 5 days early plus access to the vault is awesome.

Should have probably posted it in the Xbox One thread considering it's exclusive though :P

No no, it's an interesting discussion topic on the future of gaming and whether or not we're heading towards some form of subscription model within our digital future. :/
