  1. Joe Strummer Dennis Lyxen Jim Morrison All three had immense effects on mainstream music (Dennis to a lesser extent, but still he has had effect on it).
  2. It is all opinion and everything, but come on. You open yourself up to criticism when you make it such a subjective term like "Best Band Ever". And to even say that a band like Billy Talent with one LP released to be the best band ever is absurd. The Sex Pistols are good and all, but they should never be considered the greatest band ever because they never showed anyone besides twelve tracks that very well could have been the only twelve songs that were any good. That'd be like me hitting a home room on my debut from MLB, retiring and than telling everyone I was the greatest baseball player ever.
  3. Seriously, I don't need to make a comment on a Top 100 Bands when Billy Talent are 71. That speaks for itself. I bet most of the people on this board don't even know who Bikini Kill are. What a shame.
  4. Anyone who is thinking about buying it should; should. A) It is relatively a good price for a CD. B) It isn't a kiddie punk and it isn't over-produced pop, quite the opposite. C) The Hives are Law, You Are Crime.
  5. I didn't see a thread for your new favorite band, the Hives. They are back donning their indentical suits and gimmicky nick-names to rock and roll the fuck out of your mind. And with title tracks that make you wonder about the sanity of Randy Fitzgibbons. Walk Idiot Walk, See Through Head, Diabloic Scheme, Dead Quote Olympics. This album is much different than Veni Vidi Vicious. For one, VVV is more raw and much more a rock and roll album that this is. But Tyrannosaurus Hives exceeds in the fact that they are able to make beautiful pop-music and still sound as fresh as ever. After every single sing-a-long anthem, you want more (with the exception of Love In Plaster because it sucks). And the Hives keep supplying it. Howlin' Pelle hardly gets a chance to breathe as these boys churn a fushion of pop, garage rock, punk and new wave into an album that can only be described as : The Hives. FAVORITE TRACKS : ABRA CADAVER, 2-TIMING TOUCH AND BROKEN BONES, WALK IDIOT WALK, B IS FOR BRUTUS, SEE THROUGH HEAD, MISSING LINK. Anyone else enjoying this new album?
  6. SeanDMan, my friend has informed me that the EBay does in fact sell them. Whether you have an EB in your area, or if they even carry the game is another question.
  7. Weird. I am putting the finishing touches on a musical project and was going to post it here. I'd download the song, but the link doesn't work for me. I clicked it, I right clicked it, I put it in my browser. And it still didn't work.

  9. Holy shit. This show is probably on par with the first show. The storylines are rushed, but there more of them. Gerald should have done something to the Austin dummy though. That would have been hilarious.
  10. The Lost Patrol - Songs About Running Away : take a Hardcore legend who takes every waking second of his musical career to scream the effects of Capitalism upon the working class, berating the middle and upper class. Take all that away and let him do an album about love. No more screaming. No more loud guitars, bass, drums. Let him actually sing. This is great pop music. Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below : Okay, Stankonia was great. Probably even better than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below; but S/TLB was so much different than anything heard in the mainstream by a hip-hop outfit. Andre 3000 gets funky and Big Boi receeds to the roots of rap. Plus all of the collaborations are insane. The Clash - Essential Clash : Do I need to explain? This is a must have for ANY music fan. The Clash have left their mark on music (not just punk-rock music). Buy this album, no matter the cost. Jay Z - The Black Album/The Grey Album : I had never liked Jay Z up until I heard the Grey Album. Than I slowly loved the guy. I picked up the Black Album and it outdid the Grey Album. I am addicted to Jay Z. This album is a must-have for all rap fans. HONORABLE MENTIONS : Beastie Boys - 5 to The Borough Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People Division of Laura Lee - Das Not Compute Joe Strummer and the Mescelaros - Streetcore Junior Senior - D-d-don't stop the Beat Kanye West - College Dropout Le Tigre - Le Tigre The Locust - Plague Soundtracks

    cheap instruments

Don't buy online. Stick to buying locally. Avoid buying from instrument stores unless they are notorious for having low prices. A lot of instrument stores are just looking to sell you the mainstream models which are good, but they are pricey and aren't the best at all.

    Armed Love

I just finished listening to the copy I "bought" of Armed Love (does anyone even know the American release date) and I must say Dennis has done it again and made a classic. Not nearly as political as his previous records, this is just like the Lost Patrol album... an album about love. Anyone heard the new album yet? Anyone hyped for it? Not usually do I get hyped for a new record, but I am perhaps the biggest Dennis Lyxen fan in the world, so Armed Love was a big thing. And I must say the International Noise Conspiracy delievered. Dare I say, there best record yet? Yes, I dare.
  13. I prefer Junior Senior; although really those are heterosexual and homosexual pop songs.
  14. I never really noticed how much this Warped Tour sucks this year. Yellowcard? Story of the Year? New Found Glory? Dear lord, is this a punk rock festival or a boy-band convention? Just when I get the chance to see my fucking hero Dennis Lyxen, I could very well have to sit through emo/pop-punk/boy-band shit. At least last year it was screamo. I can sit through The Used and Thrice if I get to see great acts like Pennywise, Dropkick, Rancid, Poison the Well, Face to Face. But this year will be hard to stomach. It says a lot when I am considering going to see Billy Talent as opposed to watching themainstage on the Toronto show.
  15. This could very well be one of my favorite Bjork records. Which isn't saying much, since I have never ever been a fan of hers. But Rahzel and Mike Patton?!? Holy shit, this could very well be awesome.
  16. Looking forward to TINC, Bouncing Souls, Alexisonfire, Atmosphere amongst others.
  17. Noticed no-one replied. Great movie. My boyfriend forced me to watch this movie with him because it is his favorite movie. Was it on because of Gay Pride week?
  18. Whoa, I was going to recommend some of the ones Squancho did. I'll just give songs I am currently digging. And just for fun, lets go all Canadian! Buck 65 - Wicked and Weird Closet Monster - Sexism is Real : Wrestling is Not Hot-Hot Heat - Haircut Economics DJ Tiga - Hot in Here K-OS - Superstar Part Zero Moneen - Are we really happy with who we are? NoMeansNo - Sexmad Sloan - Everything You've Done Wrong Sam Roberts - Higher Learning Matthew Good Band - Carmelina Alexisonfire - Get Fighted
  19. I'll go with singles, because I am lazy. 1. All Falls Down by Kanye West 2. Ch-Check It Out by the Beastie Boys 3. Alright by the Lost Patrol 4. He Whipped My Ass In Tennis by Pansy Division 5. Water Wings by Alexisonfire 6. 99 Problems by Jay Z 7. Das Not Compute by Division of Laura Lee 8. She Wants to Move by N.E.R.D 9. Roses by Outkast 10. Powerless by Nelly Furtado
  20. Hold on, I don't necessarily think it is a leftist thing within music. It is the art of rebellion. Lots of protest bands were hot and popular when Bill Clinton was in office. Heck, go listen to the (International) Noise Conspiracy who attack the neo-Liberal agenda in some of their songs. It isn't a matter of liberals vs. conservatives with the majority of the bands, but in some cases it can be, it is more a unified cry for something. I mean, Fuck Tha Police by NWA was probably not written with a certain politician in mind. Of course, Rock Against Bush goes against everything written above (but hey, go in the thread and look to see that I didn't support the CD). But still; I wouldn't call it a big liberal thing, but more of a big rebellion thing.
  21. Oops. Watch the video and you'll understand. Basically it is about the treatment of women in sweatshops in Mexico. Very well done.

    Primus

Zappa > Claypool. It is true. I love Primus, but Zappa is the man. Catholic Girls is a classic. I am going to buy my tickets to see Primus in Toronto tommorow. Hopefully they aren't sold out.
  23. Here is something I thought about. If you are going to say artists shouldn't talk about politics, when do you stop? What happens if a band can't write about love songs because I don't think they understand love enough? And what makes authors who write political commentary any more intelligent than System of a Down who went out and researched a subject (Boom! and Prison Song) and did something about it. Don't you think these artists who dumb-down politics are making an accessible voice for the people who don't necessarily have the greatest grasp on politics?
  24. There has always been social/political commentary in music. Woodstock was based upon bringing peace and love to the masses. Punk was formed because of all the angst teenagers held towards the British government. A lot of rap and hip-hop has to do with the plight of blacks in a white dominated America. The queercore and riot grrl movements have always tried to generate change to homosexuals and women. There are thousands of more examples from Pearl Jam's "Jeremy" to Anti-Flags "Turncoat" to At the Drive In's "Invalid Litter Dept". Music is so power-ful and empowering, it has the ability to work on peoples emotions. Whether it be sadness, happiness, anger, whatever, musicians can literally can grab hold of their audience and mold their emotions. The question I pose is this social commentary a good or bad thing? A lot of critics of bands who come out and reflect their beliefs in music write that they aren't informed about the subjects. Anti-Flag make damn good pop-punk songs, but does that mean they are in the position to inform teenagers out their about "injustices" within the government? Do you think artists have the right to speak about their political/social views? Do you think artists are informed about these political/social views? Are they even valid in our society? Have we arrived at a point within music where things are becoming all too preachy and rely too heavily on the message and not enough on the music? And is there something wrong with letting the message of the band take precedent over the music itself?

    Primus

Holy mother fucking shit. You just reminded me that I forgot to buy Primus tickets. I am so jealous of you right know. I'd marry Les Claypool if he asked me.
