  1. Sess and Davies were excellent too - kept Salah quiet! Really impressive from fringe players that I think, as a fan base, we'd written off (maybe not Sess).
  2. They were both reds, ref got loads wrong for both team, a draw was fair. And it was so so so so so much fun to watch. After Mourinho and Nuno, just felt good to watch and enjoy a game. We did beat City for ya at the start of the year tbf
  3. looool that is handball all day long & maybe a pen on dele hilarious from the officials all day long
  4. Probs a pen, probs a red. But let's not pretend we're not owed a few.
  5. Yeah, I mean I enjoyed all of those too, I think it was a good year for the more typically light-hearted shows. Starstruck was a real winner and Feel Good really found its feet. But last year this was my top 5. Succession is the only show on this year that would get into this. 1. I May Destroy You2. Small Axe3. Better Call Saul4. BoJack Horseman5. I Know This Much Is True And honestly, especially in terms of I May Destroy You and Small Axe, there was nothing on the BBC that was anywhere as incredible and thought-provoking as these two ground-breaking shows. In general, there wasn't as much auteur driven TV, which I really get a kick out of - 3 of those top 5 are miniseries' and have their creators identity running through them - the other are two brilliant shows on the top of their game. Just felt lacking this year for me in terms of stuff that will truly stay with me, especially in comparison to last year.
  6. Ha I did the same, and the final season was probably my least favourite, but it still delivered some good build-up before a so-so finale. If I'd been watching any other year, it would've definitely been a lot higher on my list, had a blast binging it.
  7. 1. Succession 2. Mare of Easttown 3. Sex Education 4. It's A Sin 5. The Great 6. Time 7. Ted Lasso 8. Feel Good 9. Wandavision 10. Squid Game 11. Starstruck 12. Line of Duty 13. Staged 14. Loki 15. Brand New Cherry Flavour Using COVID to catch up on TV, including Sex Education which continues to be great and Time, which is just really good British TV. Using this as a marker as hoping to do a bit more catching up - I would say this feels like a fairly weak year for TV in my opinion. I really need to finish The Underground Railroad.
  8. I think the speculation was leaving beyond Black Panther 2. Sounds like she'll finish that for sure. It's a shame because she's an incredible actress and someone whose talent I admire a lot - I saw her on stage a few years before Black Panther and she was just brilliant.
  9. Thanks to the lockdown I'm on for having watched a film a day for the first time in my life. This year has been insane for new releases, this week's cinema trip saw me bawling my eyes out to Mike Mills' Cmon Cmon, which is such a stunning and beautiful movie that totally caught me off guard. Also really dug Jane Campion's Power of the Dog, which has really stuck with me, it's a film I think about more and more every day.
  10. Yessss, such a well deserved no 1. I said it elsewhere, but Self Esteem's most recent tour was like a religious experience. The way her music is connecting with her (largely female) audience was mesmerising, infectious and it felt like a real moment. I will never get bored of artists having the best time performing their music and I think the album is an incredible achievement. The For Those I Love self-titled album was a huge standout record for me. It's such a unique and emotional record and I find myself thinking about it a lot. The latest Snail Mail album probably rounds off my top three albums of the year, but there was a lot of great stuff released this year I thought. Really enjoyed some EP's this year too; Los Campesinos's Whole Damn Body, Yves Tumour's The Asymptotical World and Home Is Where's I Became Birds all really worked for me. Actually, I started doing this a few weeks ago - but here's all the albums and EP's that made a made an impact on me this year.
  11. I dunno, I'm not sure I agree, especially because certain movies have taken risks or have clear identities. Likewise, with the source material. I'll always hold hope that a company that makes so much money will take more creative risks. As I said, I went into this hoping it'd just be a fun show for the holidays - but it still seems caught between different ideas and ends up being not enough of either to me. Rogers: The Musical was easily the most interesting thing in the first two episodes; using something camp and funny to explore trauma is inherently an interesting idea and makes Clint more human and relatable to us, especially because we've only spent a limited amount of time with him over a few movies. And does so in a way that is entertaining and interesting, because who doesn't wanna see more of that musical? But if you're going to do it, follow through with it. Which is a flaw of the Disney shows in general, they semi explore stuff, they semi commit. I wouldn't be as fussed about taking risks if the shows themselves didn't sort-of want to explore interesting topics but not really. So yeah, as long as these Marvel shows present ideas and themes in their shows that they don't fully follow up on, I think I'll always go in hoping the next one is the one to get it right. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy what I'm presented with - they've got me as a viewer, I'm invested in the MCU - I'll just always hope for more and I don't think that's a problem.
  12. Ahhhhh so nice to finally go back to gigs. I saw Hannah Diamond at a PC Music night the other which was so great. Then saw Self Esteem for the 4th time and it was unbelievable, one of the best shows I've ever been to. Her live show is ridiculously good; infectious, fun and heartfelt. I love watching people play live and love every minute of it. If you get a chance and love pop music, you should get a ticket to the next tour.
  13. I thought the first two were alright. The tone's quite weird, but it was fun when it going into a good flow.
  14. I actually thought it was pretty good, especially for a big blockbuster. It has its flaws, particularly Rami Malek's character, but I was surprised by how emotionally invested I was in the whole thing.
  15. Haha yeah funnily enough I have - it's super impressive to see all those kids play their instruments live, but it's just not the film is it. Have you?
  16. I don't have much to add but School of Rock is one of my favourite films ever made. I think seeing it as a kid has cemented it as an all-time for me and a lot of friends, it's a comfort food film, I can watch it any time and it's always great fun. He's definitely flawed, but he goes on a journey and ultimately it all becomes about the kids.
  17. Oh the humour didn't land at all. On multiple occasions my flatmate and I looked at each other and shook our heads at some of the attempted quips. Some of them were so, so flat. I think I've already said in here, but I'd totally echo that I lost interested in Shang Chi when it became a CGI fest. Was digging it before. That was actually one of my favourite things about Eternals.
  18. I liked some of what Eternals was trying to do, but thought it was most a structural mess and very much not utilising Chloe Zhao's voice anywhere near as much as it could have. Was still nice to see someone try and do something different than the usual origin story template, but really thought it was messy for the first hour in particular. Was really hoping to dig it, so glad to see some on here got something out of it that I couldn't.
  19. maybe you're an adult instead of an angsty teen like me ha
  20. New Snail Mail album is predictably great.
  21. Keep seeing us linked with Conte and I can't work out why he'd come now if he didn't fancy it in the summer. rude not to be giving it to me for free???
