I'd say that he is. For a start you can name all the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL players you want but no-one besides North Americans really gives a shit about those sports. I consider my group of friends to be pretty sports knowledgable but none of them know a damn thing about American sports or any of the "names" that are involved. I know because I watch late night C5 and have tried to talk about NFL and MLB with them and none of them have a clue what I'm talking about. Lance Armstrong, on the other hand, is a far reaching name. Everyone knows who he is - the guy who had cancer who won Tour de France a bunch of times. They might not know much about him but they know who he is. He's a star, maybe more for overcoming cancer than his cycling but if he was just some Joe Schmoe to begin with then his cancer story would never have been picked up. He's a star, he was a sportsman. He's a sports star. He's way up there in terms of world wide recognition. Off the top of my head I can only think of Tiger Woods, David Beckham and Monty Panesar ( ) who are bigger names. Of course, that's not including other past sport stars like Muhammad Ali, Pele, etc, as I feel they're too far removed from the current generation.

Call me sentimental (and a fool) but I'd like to see Shearer get the job. The only issue I have with it though is he'd no doubt jump to Newcastle the first chance he got.

Has anyone got Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King from WiiWare? I downloaded it a couple of days ago and I think it's a lot of fun. It's one of those games where you keep saying "I'll just do one more day", then you find you've lost four hours of your life.

I'd love that, but I think a better idea would be a spin-off show called Springfield where they could focus more on the rest of the town. That way you could have a couple of episodes based on Chief Wiggum, some on Ned, etc. This way people wouldn't get bored with the mostly one dimensional characters.

I've never been a fan of the Batman franchise but all the viral marketing had me really looking forward to Batman: TDK. Ledger's look and take on The Joker character really intrigued me. My thoughts go out to his family, especially his daughter. My Dad died recently but I got to know him very well in the 20 years he was with me. His daughter will only have second hand stories to go on which is a tragedy. RIP Heath Ledger.

It was okay, no more no less. Didn't think the movie was all that funny, with the exception of Dewey's recurring hatred of sinks, Elvis and The Beatles. On the subject of The Beatles, I thought Jack Black was piss poor, his accent seemed to slip into something more like Yorkshire than Liverpudlian. I used to be a big JB fan but I'm getting more and more convinced he should stick to Tenacious D (music, not another crap movie) and leave it at that. The music saved the movie really. Like Pepsi said, the Dylan song was great and the Cash stuff was pretty good too. Jenna Fischer looked mighty damn fine too.

I second the love for Affleck ever since I watched him in Armageddon. Chasing Amy was great, Good Will Hunting with him and Damon. Yup, I love Affleck.
