Been so depressing the start of this season

Not much to say really, our team wasn't good enough. Spent most of the first half being muscled off the ball, then had 10 men for most of the second half.

Some players were good (e.g. Van Aanholt), some were amazing (Josh fucking McEachren. You could have told me that it was Frank Lampard in disguise and I wouldn't have doubted it), some were poor (e.g. Sturridge), some were diabolical (Ross Turnbull...yet again). Not much cohesion in all, as evidenced by some awful defending, particularly for the last goal. Pretty exciting though, for the most part.

But at the end of the day, I can't feel particularly upset about it. We didn't lose to Arsenal, for instance. We didn't stupidly give away two penalties, for instance (choosing instead to invoke slight stupidity across a wider area of the pitch). I tell myself that we're out of the Carling Cup, and the most I can come back with is "Tsk...that's a shame".

PLUS, I return home to find Liverpool have gone out to Northampton. Silver lining and all that.

If we lose this it'll be incredibly interesting to see if Roy gets the sort of bile aimed in his direction that Rafa got when we lost to Burnley in his first season.

Only negatives from the United perspective are really minor gripes. For example, Javier Hernandez being stuck out on the wing. He didn't show much and to be honest I'm not surprised. Playing as a winger doesn't play to his strengths. Should have picked a pair from Macheda, Chich and Owen. Hate Owen, think he's a pile of wank and all that, but he stuck two goals away so fair play. I was also a bit disappointed that Eikrem didn't get a go because from the sounds of things he's the best reserve prospect (excluding those who are out on loan like Josh King, Cleverley if he's not considered one of the main squad members nowadays).

Chris Smalling looks ace. Very composed on the ball, rarely shows signs of folding under pressure, a bit like Rio before Rio acquired the back of a pensioner. Plus he can score which helps (scored here and vs. Chivas in preseason). Great prospect. And that Bebe's not bad 'n' all. Stick him and Obertan on the wings, this shitty little cup is ours.

I'm fine with this easy route through the Carling Cup Birmingham are getting (Port Vale, MK Dons and now Brentford). If Northampton could beat Ipswich and get us in the next round that would be great. Plus I love how many all Prem ties keep showing up, add another couple of upsets and we could have a shot at winning this thing!

United-Wolves is boring and frustrating to watch. Nothing really happening, and when it seems like something might, a sloppy pass, a clumsy mistake etc. always ruins it. What I've gathered so far is that Obertan looks energetic, Bebe has a few nice tricks up his sleeve but needs to work on the basics, Macheda's still pretty weak and riding off his cult hero status, and Wes Brown should never ever try playing a through ball again. Nice to see all the 'youngsters' on the pitch, though. Just hope the 2nd half produces some more excitement.

And now Bebe's attempted (I think) cross just went in, yay!

.. and Elokobi just equalized. We've got a game on our hands.
