I don't suppose there's room on the server for another Aussie is there?

I'd like to start a game that's not on a snow map, and while faux-zombie-survivalist-horror is good for a while, I wouldn't mind every once in a while running into other humanoid things that aren't trying to kill me.

14 obsidian to build a portal is kind of steep for me in my regular game just because I've had a rough time finding lava (that means 28 obsidian just to make a portal system to another area, which of course is something I want to do), but definitely well worth it.

Does the portal work for multiplayer too?

Because I have a shit load of lava in my cavern (along with iron/coal/redstone etc to collect too.

It's that random spot south of the castle on Matzat's pic :unsure:

So I've been making a few changes to my mountain, hollowing out bits and extending rooms. So it's picture time!

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/8683/screen07wr.jpg">

Updated view of the front of the mountain. You can see two new rooms from here - one mid-level, and one higher up. They're both lookouts, with the mid-level allowing me to see into the valley here, and the higher up one to allow me to see considerably further. It also has a ladder leading down from it as an additional entry/exit, but I'll show that more in a sec.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/614/screen08e.jpg">

This ladder used to lead from one of the higher levels up to the peak, but I've extended it downwards so that it now leads from the base of the mountain in my work room all the way up to the peak. The glass at the top allows me to easily tell if it's day or night just by looking up the ladder if I'm not in a good position to tell otherwise.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/464/screen09.jpg">

I suppose you'd call this an emergency exit, seeing as the door only opens from the inside - you can sort of see the pressure plate that makes this possible. Not that I need an emergency exit, it just seemed fitting to have one somewhere on the ground floor.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/2579/screen10p.jpg">

Lava! I decided on a whim to make a lava feature here, and it sort of serves as an incinerator as well. The door at the end leads down the mountain, making yet another possible exit. The door also opens automatically thanks to the pressure plate, but since it's wood I can open it from the other side, at which point the pressure plate makes it close behind me! I'm thinking of putting such a set-up on my front door but have yet to do so.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/8461/screen11i.jpg">

My minecart station. You can see the track stretching off into the distance - it leads down to a frozen lake. I've used it as a springboard for exploration, since I can move much faster via minecart than I can on foot. Getting back up is tricky, but I've found using two powered minecarts at a cost of one coal each gets me back easy. And before anyone complains about the waste of coal, I've found <i>heaps</i> of enormous coal deposits, so I'm not exactly at a loss here.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2632/screen12k.jpg">

Underground water feature with a perpetual spring at the back wall. I've used this a few times, and having found a lava lake underground recently, and then also found some diamonds, I'm planning on going after some obsidian soon. This perpetual spring will fit into those plans nicely.

<img width="1024" height="576" src="http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/7513/screen13p.jpg">

Lastly, a shot from the side of the mountain, showing the ladder up to the high lookout room, as well as the door that shuts behind me. You can also see my mid-level lookout room from here as well.

Those are the major changes I've made. I've done a lot of digging as well, so there's now a maze of tunnels leading underground around this mountain. I've lost count of the amount of times I've gotten temporarily lost >_>.

Augh. Lost my diamond pick and another supply of diamond AND two of my buckets AND three iron picks AND five obsidian blocks to lava last night. I've got two diamond left--not enough to build a pick--so I need to find more before I can get back to gathering obsidian in preparation for the update.

Now I'm irritated.

How did you manage that? Did you fall in?

No, when I died and my stuff 'sploded out of me, half of it fell into the lava. The good half. The 97 cobblestone, 50 dirt, stone picks and shovels, and torches were all fine and fucking dandy.

Halloween update is out! I just downloaded it, so the server appears to be up. About to log in and take it for a run.

Damage and minecarts are still out for multiplayer until beta, by the way.

Just started playing. My grass is noticeably greener--ditto the trees. I turned the draw distance up, and the "known world" around me seems to be part of the same biome, but I'm going to head out a little further in a bit to gather more sand for my new tree greenhouse thing, so I'll have a look around.

EDIT: New sunsets are gorgeous.

I went back to the new single world I had going and went on a wood mission for my Island base. I saw a random hole on the beach and thought I'd check it out

So I get to a hole with a sand floor and stone walls I jumped down and that is when I spotted a moss block just off to the edge.

Dug up the sand and I came across a dungeon that was only 1 layer below sea level....

Not sure of what it spawns quite yet.

As you can see... there is a rock pool next to them so I may just flood the dungeon out a little.

**EDIT**

I just saw a sunset... The colours are just beautiful. makes me not want to go underground.

Agree on the sunsets. Holy crap that's well done.

So I started a new world, partly because I felt I'd done as much as I could do without going monstrously far afield in my snow mountain game, and partly because I usually start new games when expansions come around. I've found a natural cave right next to the beach I've opened up a little, walled off on both ends, and basically set myself up. Played around with fishing, went exploring a bit, found tons of iron and coal.

I decided to make a tunnel out to the ocean. I did this, surfaced, and promptly ran into a skeleton riding a spider, floating on the surface of the ocean. Needless to say I died pretty quickly. So I'm now waiting until morning before I go out to get some wood to replace my tools, because like fuck am I going back out there to get my stuff when it's guarded by that monstrosity.

:o

I've never seen the skeleton spiderjockeys!

Did you get a screencap? Didjadidjadidja!?

Unfortunately not. You see, I was too busy getting my skull ripped off to get a photo.

Goddamn fuck them. I'm going to get a bucket of lava ASAP so I can dump it on one if I ever see one again :angry:

I was using wood at that time but am currently using steel. with stone backups.

I used the wood to destroy the sand mound and flatten it out. and the pick to get through a few stones that were there.

I can't remember where my spawn point is but I'm going to offload all my stuff into a box and find out what the Mob spawner is for.

Maybe it's these Skellojocks r something else random...

Did Hugar tell you he found a slime in the EWB world the other day?
