"Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made.
The club will make no further comment on this process until it is concluded."

On that note, a ridiculous rumour just for fun.

Italian journalist Ginaluca Di Marzio says Man Utd have been in touch with Jose Mourinho and he's thinking about it. (Source: Sport Witness)

Another one going round is Van Gaal was going to sign for Spurs, but Van Persie told him to wait for United.

...Can we make one up?

Direct quote from a guy on a Chelsea forum less than a hour ago:

"Moyes gone. I give it about 20 minutes until the Mourinho to Utd rumours start."

So that's ten manager changes before the end of the season, which is apparently a record.

Chris Hughton (Norwich)

Ian Holloway (Crystal Palace)

Martin Jol (Fulham)

Rene Muelensteen (sp?) (Fulham)

Michael Laudrup (Swansea)

Malky Mackay (Cardiff)

Andre Villas-Boas (Spurs)

Steve Clarke (West Brom)

Paolo Di Canio (Sunderland)
David Moyes (Man United)

Obviously not in order. Looking at the table, 8 of those 10 changes were made by teams in the bottom half. Think Fulham are the first team I can remember sacking two full-time managers in the same season.

How many of those have been justified in hindsight? Palace is one that sticks out, probably Sunderland too, Hughton's too early to say. But I'd argue Swansea, Cardiff, Spurs & West Brom are no better off, if not worse off, than they were under previous managers. Liam can probably comment better on Fulham.

Charlton in 2006/07 comes to mind.

The banner that became a focal point of David Moyes's struggles as Manchester United manager before his sacking may end up in a football museum.
'The Chosen One' banner has hung from the Stretford End at Old Trafford since August.
It will be removed before Saturday's Premier League home match with Norwich.
Stretford End Flags, the group which had the banner made, is considering donating it to the National Football Museum in Manchester.
The banner was made as a reference to the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson, before retiring at the end of last season, chose Moyes as his successor.
There had been intense debate over whether it should have remained as long as it did. Fans who were openly critical of the former Everton boss were calling for its removal in the wake of a succession of damaging defeats.
Those calls were resisted - but it will go following Moyes's exit on Tuesday.

United are in an even more precarious position now. Whatever appointment they make has to work out after this.

The squad needs rebuilding, they may not have European football next year. It may be a harder job to follow Moyes than Ferguson.

Ferguson 25/1 to return from William Hill, It's a bad decision, this just makes the United job like a poisoned chalice, no success in a season and you're getting the boot..

There's no success and then there's being the drizzling shits and finishing outside the European spots with the reigning champions.

To be fair, they wasted the entire summer trying to convince Fabregas to come to them and then late minute signed Fellaini.. Woodward is partly to blame for this along with Fergie, leaving him with a team that was getting to the past it point..
