Find it hilarious how Barcelona just won't buy a proper defender. Like they signed Mascherano to play him out of position, they've played Song there too. Bartra looks somewhat promising but dunno how limited his chances may be. Been the glaring problem position for them years and they just do nothing to sort it out.

Pique and Luiz as the centre back pairing just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. They need to find a centre back like a Kompany, instead of these skillful ball playing defenders that maybe aren't as good defensively and take more chances like Luiz does. Dunno if they ever went for Thiago Silva before he went to PSG but he would have been a good option for them.

Suppose there's always the chance Luiz could go there and be great. Obviously it's not like he's a bad player or something.

Fully expect Barca to play him at full back or something knowing them.

Barca seem to like a centre back who's good on the ball. It's the Guardiola model, so to speak. He still does it with Martinez at Bayern.

Given that Barcelona's centre backs are the only players in the 11 who primarily defend, I don't think Luiz and his crazy way of playing is disciplined enough for them. As it was already pointed out, they need a Kompany or Thiago Silva who are world class defenders but can play enough football to move it forward. They don't need another Pique, with crazier hair and even less defensive ability.

I remember last season's transfer window talking about how no-one seemed to be buying defenders - I think Demichelis was maybe the biggest name to move in the Premier League. Now pretty much every big team is looking for a centre half of decent quality. Cue even more ridiculous price inflation.
