UFC PREDICTION LEAGUE - SEASON 1

So as Eddie's Pick 'Em is on the rocks (can't wait till he or HeadCheese brings it back), I wanted to see if EWB would be willing to try out a UFC Prediction League.

This league will be kind of similar to what Scott McFly used to for WWE PPVs. However, instead of predicting the whole card, we would only predict a few selected fights (5 for Fight Nights and 6-7 for PPVs / Fox cards). This is because not everyone (me included) are familiar with every fighter, therefore making it harder sometimes to predict. The fights selected will usually be the ones with the most notable names, making it easier for everybody.

This will be a seasonal league, with this being Season 1. It will run from the next UFC card, which is UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz on October 26th 2013, to the final card of 2013, that being UFC 168 on December 28th 2013. That will be 8 events (hopefully 9*) for this season.

League Rules

1) Each UFC PPV and UFC on Fox card will have seven fights prediction.

2) Each UFC Fight Night will have five fights selected for prediction.

3) You must predict each fight on the card, otherwise that entry is invalid.

3) A valid prediction is one with your predicted winner bolded. The manner in which the fight ends need not be stated.

4) Different fights will have different points. So, for instance, title fights, main events and co-main events will be worth more points.

5) There will be bonus questions that are not required to be answered, but are worth points.

6) If you wish to change a prediction after having posted your entry, you may do so, and you need not tell me, as I will only be tallying the scores after the fights.

7) The deadline for each entry will be one hour before the beginning of the Facebook fights.

8) For your first prediction of the season, please state your common board name (ie. Eddie Grant’s is Bad Eddie EddieG) at the top of the post so that I can help identify you down the season in case you change your username.

9) Anyone can join in anytime the season, but you will of course be at a disadvantage due to predicting fewer events than the rest.

10) Once I have posted the first card of the season, you can instantly join by predicting that fight card. I will then have you added to the list of people playing.

11) After you have joined, I will personally remind you when the deadline for each prediction period is looming near in case you want to change your mind and will also gently prod you if you have not predicted after a few days since I posted the fight card.

Please feel free to direct any questions to me if any of the rules are not clear or if you need clarification on anything about this.

*For season 1, I would also like to know whether you guys would like to predict for the Bellator MMA PPV happening on November 2nd. The card is headlined by former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Tito Ortiz against Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson. There are other recognizable faces on the card as well, so it wouldn’t be too hard to predict for the casual MMA fan. I also really want to do this as this PPV might be a colossal failure (financially) and I'd be bummed to miss possibly the only chance to do a Bellator PPV.

Please let me know what your opinion is on this matter.

If there is favourable support shown for this to be included, it will be, and will make this season 9 events long. If people aren’t comfortable with predicting the Bellator card, however, it will not be included and this season will only be 8 events long.

Below are the dates for Season 1. The points in brackets represent how much points are being contested for that card.

October 26th 2013 - UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz (15 points)

*November 2nd 2013 – Bellator MMA: Rampage vs. Tito (16 points)

November 6th 2013 – UFC: Fight For The Troops (15 points)

November 9th 2013 – UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Henderson (15 points)

November 16th 2013 – UFC 147: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks (23 points)

November 30th 2013 – The Ultimate Fighter Finale: Team Rouse vs. Team Tate Finale (19 points)

December 7th 2013 – UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs. Bigfoot (15 points)

December 14th 2013 – UFC on Fox: Pettis vs. Thomson (23 points)

December 28th 2013 – UFC 168: Weidman vs. Silva 2 (27 points)

The first event of the season, UFC Fight Night: Machida vs. Munoz, should be up shortly.

I'm all for predicting the Bellator card. But if we're going to be predicting Bellator as well, shouldn't this be called the MMA Prediction League? :P

Yeah, but I think that despite that fight falling off we'll still be predicting that specific Bellator card. I'll reconsider if people don't want to, however, especially with the biggest (in terms of recognizable names, at least) fight of the card now being cancelled.

Current Standings

1. TIE Gazz, JohnnyPerfect = 11 points

3. TIE Rich, Disturbed, Jasonmufc, Perfecshaun = 10 points

7. HeadCheese = 9 points

8. TIE EddieG, Cymru, Ben Cuntface = 8 points

11. WalkerWGZ = 6 points

Fun Facts

- Walker was the only one to incorrectly predict the main event, leading to him starting the season at the bottom.

- As Pearson versus Guillard was ruled a no contest, nobody received points for that fight.

- Everybody picked John Lineker in his fight.

- Gazz starts off as one of the leaders by being only one of only two to correctly predict Luke Barnatt beating Andrew Craig.

- JohnnyPerfect also starts off as one of the leaders by being one of only two to get both bonus questions right. The other one? Last-placed Walker.

So we start off the season with Gazz choking his way to the top of the table. The matches for our next event up for prediction, the one-off Bellator event for this season (Bellator 106) will be posted tomorrow.
