It's really sad to watch them spend thousands of dollars on a brain surgery and wedding segment, and there's maybe 1000 people in the crowd.

you can describe it as sounding really impressive 'WCW spent twice as much on their stage and pyro as they earn in ticket sales' until you finish with 'of course this was in late 2000 so they spent maybe $2000 all in'

Yeah, I think the swearing and bleeding is what sticks in people's memories, but lots of shit was like that then as you noted. I think what people miss most is wrestling as a huge deal, and it just happened to coincide with people swearing and bleeding. Nobody is really nostalgic for Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels came back to increase his stock, but though we look at them as legends, no one is pining to go back to the New Generation era, though I'm sure there were people really pining...
