I'd fire my agent if he ever got me a contract with deferred payments instead of getting that money up front. It's like these guys have never heard of inflation.

I dunno, usually they’re still getting a pile of money up front that is probably more than they know what to do with.  I think they’re just trying to ensure that they have money coming in every year well into their retirement, even if the actual value of those deferred dollars is unknown.

These are also guys who often retire in their 30s/40s. Makes a lot of sense to me to have some income coming in long after they retire. Deferrals often include interest, so you're actually get paid more money to extend the contract.

We are unionized which doesnt help either in terms of getting proper pay for our work...there are people here 10+ years dont make $13 an hour...

Players Union is alot better than ours honestly. We wish we could get rid of ours and get them to be ours, but alas. Only good perks are getting damaged stuff and things that are not fit for sale due to mistakes for super cheap before they destroy the rest, and also now able to get codes for 40% off orders on Fanatics website.

 

If it wasnt for incentive pay, and also unable to land a job somewhere better, I would for sure have left already

He was terrible last year but had decent power in 2017.  It's a minor league deal so whatever.  I don't see him making the team barring an unexpected Lagares trade, or if Lowrie/Frazier are out longer than expected and they're forced to move McNeil back to 3B.

Not checking the stats but he kinda fell off a cliff didn't he? I remember having him in fantasy and that working out really well

He only had two really good seasons in 2013 and 2014 and he never really returned to that form.  He does have some pop in his bat and he's known to be a good glove which is why he keeps finding work, but his peak was very short.
