Glasnow is blaming it on the substance crackdown. I would suspect it may have been a partly contributing factor.

Jacob deGrom throws 3 perfect innings with 8 strikeouts while also driving in another run at the plate.  Leaves the game with right shoulder soreness.

When he got pulled from his last start with a right flexor injury and decided he wouldn’t miss a start, my fear was he’d overcompensate and hurt something else.  Damn.

If he needs another IL stint so be it but they play three double headers next week so the timing couldn’t be worse.

You gotta rest him, seriously. deGrom wasn't one of the guys with absurd spinrate that we all figured was using substances but I think like most every pitcher ever he had some little bit of help and maybe without it in his past 2 starts has been lending credence to what Glasnow pointed out.

We'll see in a few more weeks if a statistically improbable number of pitchers pick up injuries.

Garrett "Spinrate" Richards gave up 6 runs (4 earned) in 4 IP.  Going to assume he was using something on the balls.

The whole saga with number 1 Joey Votto fan Abigail has had the happiest of endings.

He also has the most consecutive starts allowing 1 run or less in history. He's at 12 now. Bob Gibson had 11 with the 1968 Cardinals.

Two days into enforcement of the rule and you're seeing pitchers visibly annoyed with the on-field checks and just about every marquee starter in the league has taken a big dump on the rule in their post game pressers.  Scherzer was particularly miffed because he'd already been checked twice and Joe Girardi stopped play mid-inning to ask for the umps to check him a third time.

Scherzer nearly hit Bohm with a 95 MPH ball up and in which he later attributed to bad grip, then basically said if someone gets drilled in the dome this year that's on Manfred.

I cannot believe nobody thought managers would use the new rule as a way to take opposing pitchers out of the zone. Does anyone running baseball even watch baseball?

I agree with Clayton Kershaw's suggestion that managers should lose their challenge if they stop a game to check a pitcher who is found to be clean.

It's a dumb rule but at the same time these pitchers are being whiny babies about it. I swear if I see another one trying to take their pants off!

If they really want to do it then they should just quickly check the pitcher in between innings, and when one comes out from the bullpen. It's non-intrusive. Having these checks in the middle of innings and at a manager's discretion is just absolutely idiotic.

Not only are the All Star jerseys hideous.....for the first time ever, the jerseys will be worn during the actual game instead of everyone wearing their own teams'.

Rob Manfred is the worst thing to happen to this sport.
