It wouldn't have been a soft red though. It would have been a fair second yellow. There's a difference.

Basically echoing everything everyone has already said. Ref definitely bottled the second yellow and he should've just sent Ribery off being a general dickhead. Felt for Dortmund, but they should've never conceded that 2nd goal.

It looked worse at real time to me. Watching live it looked like he'd full on swung a boot at the guys nuts. Slow mo replays showed he'd got the stomach first. Clumsy challenge and a certain yellow.

I can't help but think had the decision been a Dortmund player on a Bayern player and the ref had given the second booking we'd all be saying the penalty was punishment enough.

I think he could've gone, but it wasn't a cynical foul, just a mistimed swing.
