Saints Row IV launches on 20th August 2013 in the US and 23rd August 2013 worldwide, and will feature naked car-surfing, superpowers, enormous mechs, and a firearm that will inflict Bloaty Head syndrome on poor unsuspecting bystanders.

Nope.

The last one was fun for.. a while. But they gave you everything cool straight off the bat and I grew sick and tired of it fast. The pinnacle of the series was the second one, it was juuuust enough randomness to make it all fun so I would've preferred that they scaled it back a tiny bit from what 3 was. Oh well.

I agree. I enjoyed the second one because it felt more like San Andreas and it was more fun that GTA IV, but the third one wasn't fun at all.

Haven't played The Third, but I fully support what they're doing. We have open world sandbox games that treat things seriously, it's wonderful to have one that does ridiculous shit.

Yeah, I enjoyed 2 more than 3. Maybe it was the whole zombie thing, it's so played out nowadays.

Of course, I'm just waiting for them to bring back the greatest online game mode of all time, Blinged Out Ride.

I really enjoyed the 3rd (although, I tend to agree that the second was better....I have fond memories of jumping out of helicopters with Ellis onto highways), so I will be getting this. Seems they are going even more off the wall, which is wonderful.

Yeah, this actually - a lot of the stuff they went for was over the top - yeah, but it was the same kind of shit that was just becoming played out at the end.

The third was one of the few games I bothered to get 1000gs on, so I'm looking forward to this although I agree with the while zombies thing.

If they make a fifth game, what's the next way they can express it's number? Since they've gone from numeric, alphabetic and now Roman numerals...

Yea..no thanks. I liked the 3rd, but eventually all the over the topness was just too much. The second is still the best, the right combo of action and over the topness..kinda like GTA:VC was

Was wondering if it would happen, since THQ is toast.

Its supposed to incorporate some of the elements of the cancelled Enter The Dominatrix expansion for III, if I remember right.

Enjoyed SR2 the most. Sure there was ridiculousness in it, but it was also serious in the right ways, in the right moments. Storyline actually mattered y'know? SR3 got the controls right, and I enjoyed the combat, but the story felt like a parody.

And the way they killed off Gat? C'mon man.

Oh my god, yes. That was fucking awful. I didn't even know Gat was actually dead until the Syndicate twin girl joined the Saints and there was some stupid throwaway line about Gat's death.

I'm not looking forward to this. I mean, it might be fun, and I realize that looking for story in a Saints Row game is a stupid idea, but I'd at least like consistent characterization - i.e., I'm hoping that nobody gets as ridiculous a random personality shift like the one Shaundi got in SRTT.

The one thing that kind of throws me off is that Saints Row 1 & 2 came off as parodies of what movies and television had done to the sterotypical 'gangster' and inner city culture perception. Saints Rows 3 was just mad libs.

I have to agree, I loved the first two games and even tolerated the third when it started getting way over the top but this is just too far into the Wacky Canyon for my liking.

Saints Row 2 was legitimately an awesome game, but I never got round to playing SR3. I too miss Blinged Out Ride. One of the most fun multiplayer games ever.
