Just a look at the poster and you can already tell this is going to be a darker, and thusly more accurate depiction of the story.

Why does everyone want a kids movie to be all dark and stuff?

And wasnt it called Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?

And those pictures are just costumes for kids and stuff. I doubt thats what any character looks like with makeup and CGI and stuff

Actually, the kid blowing bubble gum would be Violet. Mike Teevee is not in the pictures. There's the snobby kid that gets tossed down the egg shaft, the kid that gets sucked into the fudge room, and the kid that turns into a blueberry. But the kid that gets shrunken? Not there.

Still, I always considered "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to be more a kind of dark humor, like almost all of Dahl's fantastic stories. "Matilda" is probably one of the which followed the story much like Dahl wrote it. Either way, have you read "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator"? They have freaking Vermicious Knids killing off populations of entire space stations.

This had better be a darker Wonka, or else I'll be quite disappointed.

VMFP, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was based on the book/play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The book was alot darker than the movie, thats why people want this version to be a more accurate depiction of the film.
