On to Season 5 finally.

I have officially come up with my theory for how a certain sub plot plays out.  Jamie is going to finally give Bronn the castle he owes him, and it is going to be Casterly Rock.

Jamie will tell him he needs a sigil and to pick a family name, Bronn will respond with “I already have those, Bronn of House Reyne.”

I don’t think Bronn has some big agenda, he just wants a castle and is doing whatever to get it and just happens to also be the last member of House Reyne.

Heh, I have Ser Bronn of the fookin' Blackwater getting The Twins at series end because of the "I'll double your price" thing.

That’s a good guess too.  It’s become slightly more possible that Bronn is actually a Reyne, but I don’t think he actually has any schemes besides just wanting his own castle.  He clearly doesn’t hate the Lannisters, I just think it would be hilarious if he ends up with Casterly Rock just because Jamie owed him and it’s jusr like an a big joke that Tywin’s Legacy gets destroyed and his home goes to the house he famously destroyed.

Mostly I just want Bronn’s story to end with him sitting in Casterly Rock, singing The Rains of Castamere.

Has there been any word about the GoT spin offs that were talked about a while ago?  I would love to see them do a short run for The War of The Ninepenny Kings arc, which could lead to a Roberts Rebellion one.

The Ninepenny Kings were basically 9 guy who banded together to help each of the take over their own territory, including Maelys Blackfyre wanting to take Westeros.  It would have young Barristan, Tywin, Blackfish, The Mad King before he was king.  Kind of an origin story for some of the old guard from the show.

The Long Night is still the only confirmed spinoff. Filming of the pilot is supposed to begin sometime in the middle of the year.

Doom of Valyria was rumored a while back, debatable about as to if it's true or not.

Robert's Rebellion as it played out in the books is already confirmed to not be happening. Alt-history where it's Bobby B who dies on the Trident is likely the only way it'd happen.

Dunk and Egg MAY happen, but it's a longshot.

Hope Dance of the Dragons happens, but think of how crazy the CGI bill would be.

If it way my call, I'd do:

  • The Long Night
  • Doom of Valyria
  • something in the farthest eastern portions of Essos. Yi Ti would be as far west as the show would go.
  • First Blackfyre Rebellion
  • Show's currently up to ~304-305 AC; so for giggles, set it in 500 AC and see how the world changed in that time.

I doubt it would happen because most Game of Thrones fans like the story's large scale, but I'd be very interested in a miniseries focusing on a small cast of characters within a short space of time. The Defiance of Duskendale would be the first thing that comes to mind. You'd have Aerys slowly descending into irreversible madness in his cell, along with Lord Darklyn moving gradually from grand self-confidence to increasing doubt as Tywin's forces approach.

Then you could also explore Tywin's psychology in more detail as he's torn between defending his king, a man he's grown to despise, but with whom loyalty still needs to be maintained, and letting him die so that Rhaegar can take the crown. Of course, then you could look at Rhaegar's ongoing reaction to the whole situation and how this shapes his character.

I realise that we already know the main beats of this storyline, but the parts in between could be really engrossing. You'd only need a miniseries, as I've said, but it would be a slow burn so as to really maximise the level of character development.

Ah fuck.  Watching the episode where Jamie and Bronn go to Dorne and they talk about how they want to die.

Bronn wants to die of old age in his Keep with children.  Jamie wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves.  I bet both happen.  Jamie dies in Brienne’s arms, Bronn dies of old age in Casterly Rock.

I thought Bronn Reyne was a stupid theory hit everything is pointing to it being true.  I just still hope that at least they make it so Bronn isn’t planning all this and it just sort of happens to him.

Season 5 is easily the worst one.  A lot of stuff takes a lot longer to get to then it needs.  It has two of the worst creative decisions in the show (killing Barristan and the Sansa rape).

It's overly political while the more interesting characters are kind of stuck with only one person for every episode.  I wouldn't say its a bad season but by far the least interesting of them all.  Except Hardhome is probably my 2nd favorite thing in the show next to the Magnificent Seven episode.

I've never quite been as keen on Hardhome as everyone else seems to be. There's a lot to like, certainly, but I wouldn't put it in my personal top ten. Beyond The Wall, on the other hand, is easily my least favourite episode, and really the only one I can say I genuinely dislike. It dumped plot logic in favour of spectacle, and the result was a series of CGI-loaded action scenes that existed purely for their own sake.

People give D&D a lot of flak, and I think some of it's justified. From Series 5 onwards, they seem to know what they want to happen, but they've not been very good at writing a plot that smoothly transitions to those payoffs, like the death and resurrection of Viserion, Littlefinger's death, Ramsay's defeat and the Dornish coup. It's a bit like the whole "Wrestlemania moments" focus WWE has sometimes, through which they want to create major moments without always thinking about how they'll make them meaningful and impactful by building up to them effectively. It's what makes me worry about Series 8.

With that said, I do think D&D are good at writing dialogue. Plenty of scenes that are exclusive to the show, like those between Tywin and Arya, Littlefinger and Varys and pretty much everything involving Olenna, are entertaining and can be watched time and time again. When characters are, to use the story's vernacular, "playing the game", I'm at my most interested.

I really hope the episodes themselves don't leak early. Last time round, a number of sites decided it was appropriate to post the news of Beyond The Wall's leak alongside a screenshot of Viserion being reanimated.

Barring any mishaps regarding uploading things to HBO Go/Now at the wrong time and/or another major hacking scandal, security has been good this year and bodes well overall. S8E1 plot and what was going on at the later Dragonpit filmings (although exact outcomes differ depending on who you believe) are the big ones.

Also, smaller promo bits have dropped and THERE'S JON/ARYA FOOTAGE IN THEM, BE STILL MY HEART. (Although it looks like it's post-Jon parentage reveal)

Finally finished the rewatch, and with a day to spare.

Also after the 7th season rewatch did I realize that the dragon named after Viserys is the one that turns to the army of the dead, while Jon will soon get to ride the dragon named after his father.

Also, Ghost didn't appear once in the 7th season? Is he still alive? If he is, where the hell is he? He doesn't appear to be anywhere with Jon or at Winterfell.
