Sky Bet EFL 2019/20

Norman Smurthwaite, the former Port Vale chairman, is reported to have lodged a bid to buy Bury. Steve Dale apparently thinks the offer is insufficient, but it sounds as if it's the only one that's forthcoming before Friday.

Smurthwaite was unpopular at Port Vale and was rumoured to be in the frame to purchase Notts County recently, which fortunately didn't come to pass. However, given the choice between a not so great owner and extinction under the particularly awful owner they have at the moment, I think most Bury fans would begrudgingly take the former.

Let's hope it all goes through and is approved by the EFL.

Company which bought Bury debt reported to be owned by partner of Dale’s daughter

A company which bought a £7m debt owed by Bury for £70,000, and was then able to wield a crucial vote in favour of the club’s company voluntary arrangement (CVA), is reported to be owned by the partner of the daughter of Steve Dale, the club’s owner.

The MP for Bury North, James Frith, has called for an investigation into the sale of the debt to the company, RCR Holdings, which was formed on 16 July, two days before the meeting at which it then voted through the CVA.

RCR Holdings, registered to a private house address in Chadderton, Oldham, is wholly owned by Kris Richards, 41, who is also the sole director. Many Bury supporters immediately identified him as the partner of Dale’s daughter, then BBC Radio Manchester reported on Thursday that Richards had confirmed that to its reporter, Mike Minay.

That's nothing to do with this takeover bid though.  No doubt Steve Dale is a vulture and a crook at this stage but if the sale is agreed this weekend, to Rory Campbell and his company, with the EFL allowing the league extension to get it done, then they should be able to survive as a league club.

Bolton and Bury have both been given until 5pm on Tuesday to sort themselves out, get the club sold or prove they can finance the season or they are expelled.

Good. This cannot be allowed to continue, it is making a right mess of the division.

It's a shite situation for everyone.

For the fans of both Bolton and Bury, it's such a horrible position to be in but it just causes a mess with all of the other teams having to have their games postponed and then creating a potential back log further down the line.
