2021 MLB Season / 21-22 Offseason Thread

The top team in the NL Central is going to finish with more wins than only the last place team in the AL East. Everybody but the Orioles in the East out-won the Braves this season.

It's insane to think that it's possible for 3 teams out of the East could be playing post-season baseball. It's even crazier that anyone left behind would have made it in a weaker division.

Their wins are probably right where they would be in other divisions based on the fact each had to play each other 18 games this season. But they all just whooped Baltimore all season and the division was basically decided by who whooped them the most.

Hoping for total chaos today. Go Rays, go Nats, go Jays, go Mariners, and go Dbacks (so O's can get the top pick).

As the league considers playoff expansion...here is the mess the 2021 playoffs would be if they used the same system as the gimmicky COVID season.

AL
1-Rays (100-62) (E1)
2-Astros (95-67) (W1)
3-White Sox (93-69) (C1)
4-Red Sox (92-70) (E2)
5-Mariners (90-72) (W2)
6-Indians (80-82) (C2)
7-Yankees (92-70) (WC1)
8-Blue Jays (91-71) (WC2)

NL
1-Giants (107-55) (W1)
2-Brewers (95-67) (C1)
3-Braves (88-73) (E1)
4-Dodgers (106-56) (W2)
5-Cardinals (90-72) (C2)
6-Phillies (82-80) (E2)
7-Reds (83-79) (WC1)
8-Padres (79-83) (WC2)

Snubbed: Oakland A's (86-76)

To no surprise, the Mets have announced that they will not be picking up Luis Rojas' 2022 option.

He was bad in 2020 but he was thrust into the job last-minute and then had to navigate a gimmicky season with every game amplified from the short schedule, playing under a different set of rules with a ton of double headers and the constant threat of players going down to COVID.  Giving him a mulligan was fair.  But he showed this year he was out of his depth. Good guy, but time to move on.

I doubt it happens in New York but Carlos Beltran absolutely deserves a chance since Hinch and Cora both got to come back.

Its always a good postseason when the Cardinals and Yankees get knocked out early. (It would require them not even making it to be a great one.) Now, if someone just knocks out the Braves......
