Yeah, I got a message from The Beths because I listened to their last album in full on there in Spotify once or twice, and that was enough to be my most-listened Spotify artist since I almost exclusively use it for working on collaborative playlists otherwise. I'd love to track down what some of the others look line, thusfar my favorite I've seen is the one from Weird Al Yankovic.

Once I try to remember what my Apple password is I'll probably post my Apple Music Wrapped on here.

That's hilarious that Spotify was ok with that. He basically just called them out for how shitty they pay.

i got a message from Halestorm, which was annoying because my most listened to artist was somehow the Northern Boys, and that message would have been wild. Not sure how they were my most listened to artist when they've only got about four songs though

  • Listened to 78 genres. Top were Singer-Songwriter, Alternative Rock, Crank Wave, New Wave, and Chamber Pop. This was the first time I ever heard the phrase "Crank Wave", and while "Chamber Pop" is on my list every year, I'm still not entirely sure what it is.

  • I played 6969 songs, nice nice.

  • Top songs were:
Chappell Roan - Pink Pony Club (fair enough, it's a banger and I obsessed over it)
    Laibach - Amerika
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
Ghost - Jesus He Knows Me
World's End Girlfriend - Ghost Of A Horse Under The Chandelier

  • Top artists were:
    Laibach (top 1%)
    Alabama 3
    Tom Waits
    PJ Harvey
    They Might Be Giants

  • Top podcasts were:
    It's Probably (not) Aliens!
    Behind The Bastards
    Deadlock
    Must See Matches
    Unclear and Present Danger

Spotify stats are always a bit skewed for me - there's a couple of playlists that will be in heavy rotation, because I put them on when I can't sleep, and that's what results in stuff like Sakamoto and World's End Girlfriend, as brilliant as they are, pretty consistently being in my top listens. I usually listen to podcasts while walking or commuting, but I have a couple of playlists of just stuff to put on in headphones if I don't have podcasts to catch up on, or aren't in the mood for them, and that tends to lead to some songs being played a lot more than I otherwise would have done too. Podcasts-wise, there's a couple I listen to more than most on that list, but via Patreon, so they don't show up here. I'm surprised Deadlock is that high, as I only started listening to them late in the year.

I can't really account for that Ghost song being high up - it was definitely on one of those playlists, and maybe a road trip playlist or something? Also a possibility that it was getting played a lot in the run-up to the wrestling show I promoted, because I was trying to stay in a bit of a goth rock frame of mind for that one.

More important than Spotify Wrapped, though, is JUDGE MY SPOTIFY - https://pudding.cool/2020/12/judge-my-spotify/

Mine came out with;

Quote

You listen to these too much:

Amerika by Laibach

Temple of Love by Black Veil Brides

Mandinka by Sinéad O'Connor

Stay [Feat. Patrick Wilson] by Ghost

Better Off Without A Wife by Pete Shelley

You stan these artists to an uncomfortable extent:

Richard Thompson

Orville Peck

Laibach

Tom Waits

Alabama 3

You are 1% basic. Oh wow Exotic Adrian Street and the Pile Drivers and Luke Haines! Your taste is so obscure that's so cool I bet you're super interesting..

You're too trendy for your own good. You know there's good music from before 2019, right?

The "you know there's good music from before 2019" thing is because in the last couple of years I've started using Spotify to keep on top of new releases, so whenever I'm working from home, I listen almost exclusively to new albums, which is another thing that will completely throw these things off in terms of what my listening habits are outside of just Spotify.

That's tremendous, I particularly liked the snarky questions:

"Do you really listen to Casual Cruelty by Slug?Yes

Like ironically?"

Full results:

Spoiler

> Unfortunately that's not all I learned:

You listen to these too much:

blue bones (deathwish) by Billy Nomates

The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte by Sparks

Nothing Is As Good As They Say It Is by Sparks

The Game by Sports Team

C'est Si Bon by Say She She

You stan these artists to an uncomfortable extent:

The Big Moon

Ash

Arctic Monkeys

The Lonely Island

Radiohead

You are 5% basic. Oh wow Sky Larkin and QTY! Your taste is so obscure that's so cool I bet you're super interesting..

You're too trendy for your own good. You know there's good music from before 2019, right?

I also got the Halestorm message, and they were 4th on my ranking. They do happen to be just about my favourite band though, so I'm not mad at it. I've just discovered in writing this post that you can view all the Thank You videos by your top artists on the "Wrapped" section, and mine include Kate Stables and Black Stone Cherry, who are not actually in my top 5, so it's worth having a look at.

My top 5s were:

ARTISTS

1. Black Spiders

2. Alice in Chains

3. Bring Me The Horizon

4. Halestorm

5. Skindred

SONGS

1. Alright Alright Alright by Black Spiders

2. Down in a Hole by Alice in Chains

3. Set Fazers by Skindred

4. Hot Wheels by Black Spiders

5. Situation by Yazoo

Yazoo looks like an outlier there, but I do like my 80s stuff and that band/song in particular is a sentimental one between me and my girlfriend.

I had 51 genres, 2780 songs and 719 artists across 41,606 minutes, which I'm happy with as I try to listen to as much different stuff as possible, even heavy rock music has dominated by top 5s. If you add the 2023 Playlist to your Library, I think those songs are in order too, so not far behind the ones above I also had music by the likes of Kate Stables, Dave Alvin, Nirvana, Maneskin, Eric B & Rakim, Go_A, Viagra Boys, Paramore and Japanese Breakfast. So I think it's decently varied when I dig down past the top 5.

Literally the only time I'd really heard that mentioned as a genre was in Chart Wars way back when, it was used for Evanescence and Nightwish pretty much exclusively from memory so I assume it's essentially Symphonic Rock/Metal, I've given up trying to identify what genres are these days though. I only need two "shit I like and shit I don't like".

My top artist was ABBA, because we had a day at work where we played ABBA songs all day, using my Spotify account to do so, and it completely fudged the numbers.

Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran and Lady Gaga were the others in the top 5.

Top 2 songs were Flowers by Miley Cyrus as it came out earlier in the year, and Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo which is my favourite song of the year.

The amount of feeling my kids put into singing this song (and her whole album tbh) is so cute. Olivia Rodrigo made pop punk cool for the youngs and for her we stan.

Spotistats/Stats FM now does a monthly style wrapped :o

IMG-20240329-WA0002.jpg

Sidebar - listen to Lauran Hibberd. Saw her live the other week and she was absolutely lovely.

Oh Shit is Libertines, Mary is Lauran, Bobby Sox is Green Day, Honey Body is Kishi Bashi, and I Suck At Grieving is also Lauran.

Untitled design (3).jpg

Quite an EDM heavy month as it helps me get stay focused at work. Last month I think I had Alestorm at #1 artist because I was refamiliarising myself with their newer albums.

That's Marshmello, Hollywood Undead, Sebastian Ingrosso, Avicii, and Fall Out Boy represented in the top tracks. Spotify kept serving me Bullet (Hollywood Undead) on basically every mix playlist possible, including both happy and moody!
