They should have stayed out of that and tried to snag a World Cup instead. It really is ridiculous that the birthplace of the sport hasn't hosted since 1966 and silly countries like the USA and Germany have hosted it twice since then.

...why is it silly that Germany has hosted it twice?

England frankly got screwed in the World Cup bidding process that saw Russia & Qatar bribe their way to hosting under the guise of "growing the game". For them to settle for the Euros makes it pretty clear to me they know the bribery through is overflowing with 2030 and 2034 bids.

But with how large the field is now, it's hard to envision a scenario where a joint UK/Ireland bid doesn't become a no-brainer. There are enough top class stadiums, the infrastructure to handle crowds is there, and as mentioned it's the game's birthplace and pretty silly it isn't on a regular rotation as host.

Giant, state-of-the-art NFL stadiums nor giant, state-of-the-art oligarch playground stadiums will save FIFA every year with what they're asking for. When it's crossed the threshold that Germany or Spain or Italy don't feel viable as hosts unless they do a joint bid with someone else, that's an impending issue.

They know they'll be wasting their time and money trying to get the World Cup, they've done that dance enough. Fifa cares not one jot about the fact it has more and better stadia and infrastructure than anywhere else, it's all about who is giving the brown envelopes out.

Italy’s stadium infrastructure isn’t particularly great, but agree on all other points.
