Well based off the casting call for Daemon Targaryen, looks like 2022 is indeed when House of the Dragon begins airing.

I hope there's more to this than fancy CG dragon battles. With good writing, Daemon Targaryen could be a great television character, but he also seems like one who could be very easy to mess up.

2022 now basically confirmed as the airdate barring more unforeseen circumstances.

That's a fan-made trailer, but it's well done. I don't feel much either way for the series at the moment because it's the sort of thing that has the potential to be superb, but I can also see it being a fancy style-over-substance affair. Bryan Cogman at least seems a little more switched on than Benioff and Weiss, but he was still involved in Game of Thrones when it went downhill. I wonder how much influence he had on the last couple of series beyond writing an episode or two.

On the plus side writing-wise, there is a solid endpoint for Season 1 to work towards. If there's more seasons, then it gets iffy especially if we get much beyond the Young Dragon.

Cogman is actually not writing it, he's working on the LOTR series for Amazon. 

Ryan Condal (Hercules, Rampage) is writing it. Not sure if that's a good thing or not but it is fresh eyes at least.

Oh, I didn't know that. Apparently, the series was his idea, but he couldn't work on it in the end. I know GRRM is involved in some capacity, so I hope it doesn't suffer from a deviation from the original vision.

I don't know if I trust GRRM anymore. The guy has so much money he probably just can't be arsed with really fighting for his vision to be on the screen as much as he wants to just hand over an outline and timeline and let the showrunners fill in the gaps.

He clearly has no urgency in wrapping up the books, don't quite know why he'd have urgency in getting a TV show to execute on his exact vision.
