My impression is that there's lots of fun interspersed with sections of tedium. That's how I ended up feeling about Breath of the Wild, so I'm expecting something similar.

An unfortunate example in my case. The tedium made me quit before I finished Breath of the Wild

Really, with the game being so long, I can see myself dropping out and drifting back in multiple times over a long period of time. That's what I've been doing with The Witcher 3, which I still haven't finished. I don't think any game can keep my uninterrupted attention for the sixty hours that's being suggested here.

I feel the same way. I whipped right through Assassin's Creed Odyssey recently but that is for sure a rarity for me now especially since Bioware isn't making interesting games anymore

Odyssey ❤️ Have committed so much time to that game and not gotten bored once. Although very angry at it for about two hours cause of one thing.

I love games I can get lost in and just super immersed in the world and I think Red Dead is gonna be like that. Games where you can do nothing but wander about and explore for hours and forget about story and it’s still enjoyable. Amazon better not be slow as fuck as they often are tomorrow.

It'll unlock on my PS4 at midnight, but I feel like shit, need to take some cold meds to get to sleep and wake up early enough to call out of work.  So I doubt I'll be playing it until morning

Am I weird for actually liking the sound of that?

Naw, I actually love the sound of that. A lot of this game is going to be getting a feel for the characters and their situation and a big part of that is the struggling to survive aspect of it. I'm super excited for that whole bit of it.

Yeah, feels like a really cool way of bedding in to that world and making it seem tough and gruelling and that.

Considering the last game had a lot of references to stuff and inspiration from things, like that little place with all the oil derricks being called Plainview, seeing trailers for this makes me feel like there might be a few references and direct influence from stuff like The Revenant.

Is it really as tedious as some reviews said, or is it sort of like that part in the first game where you spend ages working on the farm breaking horses etc? Cos I didn't mind that at all. Can't play till 3 or 4 or something

I honestly didn't mind the opening part. It may seem drawn out but I can see why they went that route. Definite character development and introductions plus tutorials especially with new mechanics. Very handy.
