What's the betting Chelsea have said 'We'll pay you £X per week to sign a deal now, but if you reject this, we'll pay you £X per week plus another fifty grand per week if you sign a pre contract on 1st January'.

Thought you can't sign precontracts in January for players from the same divison? Wouldn't they have to wait till the month before the contract expires.

I think because he turns 24 (in England, you can't sign a player under 23 on a free transfer until he has been released by the club that holds his registration) in December, that doesn't apply. Danny Ings from Burnley to Liverpool was a pre-contract between PL teams.

Bleacher Report went behind the scenes on deadline day at Sheffield United. An interesting little insight into how it goes.

Reportedly Silva's transfer to us may have gone over the line, so he's our player... but he may not have been registered in time so may not be able to play until 2018.

What a fucking mess

Fifa have confirmed that Leicester missed the deadline by 14 seconds.

Until you hear about a Barcelona or similar missing the deadline by five minutes and UEFA going 'Fuck it' and allowing it because it's a big club.

Sporting Lisbon are to report West Ham to FIFA for "illegal approaches" to William Carvalho, Sky Sports News understands.

---

Sky Sports News has exclusively obtained emails which appear to prove West Ham made a bid for the Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The two clubs have been at odds over West Ham's claims they did bid for the player but were only told he was available on deadline day, leaving them not enough time to do a medical.

However, Sporting hit back calling the West Ham owners liars. West Ham responded by saying they were seeking legal advice but, again, Sporting hit back asking for proof that they did make a bid.

---

Well, here is the first of two emails. It was sent on August 10 at 4.22pm by David Sullivan and addressed to people at Sporting Lisbon - we've withheld those details to protect the privacy of the recipients.

"This is to confirm we can offer €25m payable in 3 payments over 24 months, €8.333m now, August 2018 and August 2019,” the email read.

“This is the ONLY guaranteed fee we can offer, but with additional terms and bonuses to be discussed."

The second email was sent a day later – August 11 - again addressed to people at Sporting Lisbon.

It starts "RE YOUR PLAYER William Carvalho." And then repeats the payments information set out in the last email.

It includes detail of a 10 per cent sell-on clause and says add-ons are still to be agreed. It sets out an example of West Ham qualifying for Champions League.

The last line will be of interest to West Ham fans - it says "we wish to conclude ASAP or we'll be borrowing a player from PSG."

Sky Sports News understands that player to be Grzegorz Krychowiak, who joined West Brom on loan this summer.
