WWE 2K18

As long as they put a lot of focus on the engine and in-ring graphics and stuff, the backstage can genuinely look like a PS2 game for all I care. That's only really an important part in career mode, or if you do the Backstage Brawl mode or whatever it's called. Not going to matter much if you do Okada versus Rollins matches and stuff like that where it's strictly in-ring. At least, that's what I do. I mainly get these WWE games for the Universe mode and to play as created wrestlers, so this doesn't bother me at all. Obviously your mileage may vary, and some might care more than others.

Also, WWE games have always looked worse than other games on the same systems. I don't know why that is, really. Some PS2 games looked really awesome, but then you get a WWF game and it's horrible looking. Same thing with the THQ and 2K games. Those very same studios have some pretty looking games, but when they release a WWE game... not up to par with other titles. It's weird.

They weren't so bad.

I get tempted by this every year no matter how shit it looks.  I don't buy all that many games so it's not as though $60 would break the bank.  The part that would inevitably piss me off is that I'd be spending $60 for maybe a month or so of playing before I get unbelievably bored and put the game in the drawer forever.

Short of a snap impulse purchase, I can't see myself buying this one at all. It'll be the first WWE game I've missed since Smackdown 1 if so, but I got tired of the last one so quickly, and I've seen nothing to suggest that this iteration will manage to win me over.

After playing UFC 2 as one of my first PS4 games, and realising that there are PS4 combat games that look great, have excellent collision detection, intuitive controls, fighters that play differently depending on their size, and their respective strengths and weaknesses, and logical commentary, and they're coming from EA of all places, it just makes the WWE games look even clumsier and lazier than I'd realised.
