I would say I feel sorry for Neymar but I don't cause he's a nob.

Wonderful performance by Belgium. Fellaini was MOTM for me. Hazard brilliant, so was Lukaku and Courtois. De Bruyne before he got tired too. They thoroughly deserve this.

Also, haha Neymar.

This is a great end to Euro 2018.

You know for all the talk about how all the top sides are out, it’s also the first time there’s VAR and I’d like to point that a lot of said top sides are a full of conniving cheating bastards that are perhaps losing out because of VAR. Like, is Italy ever going to win a World Cup again? :shifty:

I think I'll be happy with any possible outcome for this World Cup, now. I would clearly prefer either Croatia or Belgium to take it, but I think the only team that would leave a poor taste in my mouth if they won would be Russia.

Brazil just cannot win it on European soil.

Well, they're the only country outside Europe to ever win it on European soil.

Unless England win because Brexit means Brexit

Belgium/France is like a Champions League Final, whereas the other semi-final will be like a Europa League Final.

It's fine, because then they have to face off in the most important trophy in club football, the European Super Cup.

Definite penalty missed for Brazil there though, first time I saw it I thought the ball was out before the contact but it's nowhere near. Nailed on penalty.

So my $5 bet on Belgium to win the World Cup yields $60, if I cash out now I make $14. My $5 France bet yields $40 if they win it all and if I cash out I earn $11. I have decisions to make!

Belgium / Croatia in the finals please. Although, right now I'd settle for anybody winning outside of Russia and England.

Yeah, I'd love to see that final. Belgium just because Wales beat them in the Euros and that's a fun thing to consider, and Croatia because that's the country that I basically pulled out of a hat to support at the start of the tournament.

I thought Hazard was absolutely terrific at keeping hold of the ball on those slower clearances / counter attacks. Lesser players would have been bundled over, tackled, or forced to lmup it down feel. Such a good player.

What's wrong with England?  Why don't you like England?

Yeah the ball just sticks to Hazard's feet and his low centre of gravity makes him such a nuisance. He was amazing yesterday!

The weird 4-3-3 really worked for Belgium. Bobby Martinez: Tactical genius, who'd have guessed!

I'm going to be really sad if Hazard leaves Chelsea. Absolutely magnificent player.

At least some people will be happy, no matter who wins the England game... but obviously it'd be best if England lost. :shifty:

So the Woman's World Cup starts tomorrow, with hosts Canada facing China. Anyone else going to be watching?

I'm supporting Sweden personally, them and Canada.

We've got a month until the World Cup! So exciting!

Anyway for some reason the BBC suddenly posted news about Japan's squad because Shunsuke Nakamura (the ex-Celtic player) has been recalled.
However the best news is that Kawaguchi is back in the squad as third choice goalie! He's a total legend. A chirpy little Japanese shot stopping legend:

My local team is Nagoya Grampus and we've got two players in the squad but one is Tulio who hasn't had the best couple of years.

Is Jesus (Kennedy) in the Australian squad? He's Nagoya's big lanky striker who looks useless for 89 minutes and then bundles in a header in the last minute pretty much every game.

Anyway, Japan are annoying me because their style at ANY kind of football is to try to dribble the ball into the net (a bit like Arsenal but less successful) instead of one person just deciding to let rip from around the box. If they actually shot from 16-25 yards from time to time they'd actually be pretty decent.

We have an England thread, but not a general one, so here it is.

Norn Iron are 1-0 down against Russia with around 25mins to play.

Wales vs. Belgium is on Sky Sports later, and Holland-Turkey can be watched on ESPN.

Fully expecting a comfortable Belgium win this evening. Can't see Wales handling them.

Scotland play Serbia, and Rep Ire vs. Kazakhstan is currently goal-less.

It may seem early but, bo-lieve it or not, the qualifying campaigns for certain AFC teams begin today. I'd completely forgotten about it, until I read this article on the BBC, explaining how a 'living God' was cheering on Bhutan in their opening game.

The 12 lowest ranked sides contest a two legged play off to see who gets into Round 2.

Some of the first leg games have already finished, including a shock win for Bhutan (the only team in the current FIFA World rankings to have zero points):

      Timor-Leste 4 - 1 Mongolia
      Cambodia 3 - 0 Macau
      Sri Lanka 0 - 1 Bhutan

The games still to play/finish are:

      India - Nepal
      Yemen - Pakistan
      Chinese Taipei - Brunei Draussalam

The second legs are due to be played on Tuesday next week.

As for the other qualifying zones, CONCACAF begin later this month (23rd), and the CAF and CONMEBOL begin in October. UEFA are yet to reveal the date of their start. OFC are using the OFC Nations Cup next year as their qualification process.

EDIT: We should so adopt a team in each zone as EWB's underdog team!
