It’s a shame but I don’t blame him. Very few teams able to pay the money that Madrid were paying. Don’t blame him for not wanting to take a pay cut, not as if he has declined or anything - and goes somewhere where the fans will treat him with respect, unlike the Madrid fans in the last season or so. No way Madrid under Zidane were doing him any favours either.

Real have to know they're in a no win situation. They're either going to have to accept a free transfer if they're going to get a club to actually match Bale's wages, or if they get a fee, they're going to have to subsidize his wages. To quote Joe Pesci, Real, "you're getting fucked one way or the other."

Why did it take until he’d actually arrived in China to realise that this was the case though?
