Messi's lawyers are arguing that his contract was 3+1 years, with the +1 being a period where he could leave the club if he wanted to, much like Xavi and Iniesta had in theirs.

If they can prove this is the case, Messi is a free man and without a club.

Guillem Balague says that Messi will not return to training tomorrow either, as he believes he no longer plays for Barcelona.

His lawyers seem to believe that if he turns up for testing, that would suggest that he acknowledges that he's still under contract, which is why he's not turning up.
