Seeing the fee is actually only £20 million, with £5m in add ons based off winning the league and Champions League. That is a great freaking deal considering the fact that Thiago was arguably one of the best creative midfielders last season.

It also means if we do indeed sell Gini, the difference in money won't be as large

A remarkably low fee for a player of Thiago's calibre. He doesn't really improve Liverpool anywhere but it's another body and a great all round player. Not sure he's going to set the world alight but for 20 million you don't expect him too.

Not sure where this idea that he's a really good creative player is coming from though - no assists and just a chance created per game last season aren't world beating numbers (and indeed lags behind a number of Liverpool's current midfielders, Henderson included, who should start ahead of him tbh).

I believe he's an extremely precise passer. He's been best suited as more a deep-lying midfielder, sparking the attack as opposed to being up further and creating chances. But he's useful in both roles which is huge for Liverpool in this very condensed season.

Thiago isn't the guy who gets the assist. He's the guy who makes the key pass to start the move. It's the next pass or after that, that will score the goal.

Exactly. He started the move that won Bayern the UCL. He’s the one that initiated the team from defending into attacking.

He's not any better at that - 0.8 per 90 minutes played - than Henderson (0.9) or Keita (0.8). No, what Thiago is going to bring to Liverpool's midfield, as well as his excellent pass accuracy (only Gini matches his 90.5% and the rest of Liverpool's midfield hovers around 84-87%), is his dribbling ability offensively - 3 successful dribbles per 90 minutes (that's better than any single player at Liverpool by some margin, Mane is Liverpool's leader in this stat, 2.0 per 90) at a success rate of 85.7%.

And defensively Thiago will contribute with breaking up opposition attacks and counter-attacks before they start, with his ability to intercept the ball being better than anyone at Liverpool currently. 2.3 interceptions per 90 minutes is almost Premier League leading - only Ndidi and Capoue last season intercepted more balls per 90 minutes.

Liverpool have managed to get a really good player for a really good price. Now don't sell Gini to Barca cos that'd be stupid.

Football needs 2nd assists, like in ice hockey.

Been saying this for years.

If what you got from what I posted is that I was saying Thiago is bad, you didn't read what I said. Thiago's a very good player - but he's not the kind of player people keep describing him as. He's no better than Henderson creatively.

I'm just pulling your leg 😛
