Belle & Sebastian are nice. In fact, few bands are nicer. Lots are better, but none as nice.

Led Zep are pretty boring, actually. Maybe I just got tired of them, but they just don't interest me. Too self-indulgent, too stealing old blues songs.

Never heard The New Pornographers.

Don't care about Biffy Clyro.

Avenged Sevenfold are absolutely fucking atrocious.

I've heard one Vampire Weekend song I like, but not very much.

Disturbed are shite. They are the band that everybody I know that goes to the Rock "Nite" I sometimes DJ, bar one or two people, cite as the worst thing that ever gets played there. Even the DJ that always plays it hates it, but feels he has to because otherwise the one or two people who do like it would complain. They're shit. Simple as that. Absolutely awful. At least I can amuse myself by knowing that that fucking SOUND he makes at the start of Down With The Sickness sounds like Goofy taking a hit in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Nirvana are brilliant. Not the best band in the world, or the worst, even though apparently they're the only opinions you're allowed to have of them - they're one of the most polarising bands ever. But, fuck it, I love them. And the recent "On Air" release - a radio session recorded prior to the release of Bleach - just proves that they were always brilliant, and genuinely a fucked up ballsy rock band, far more than comes across on the vast majority of their overly produced recorded material. See also; Steve Albini mix of In Utero. Get over the "Kurt Cobain = Nirvana" fixation, and see that they were a band, not just a frontman, and try and look past the legions of "Kurt is Jesus" fanboys/girls, and they're a bloody good band.

I barely ever listen to them any more, but The Smiths are amazing. One of the most important bands to my own musical development, and just one of the best bands there ever was. Simple as that. I've gone into detail as to why a thousand times before, but if you know, you know.

Don't really care for Dropkick Murphys, though I kind of liked their version of "The Auld Triangle".

Vampire Weekend are just one of those hipster darling bands to me, fuck Disturbed, Skummy said everything I wanted to say about Nirvana very well, I need to get into The Smiths, and Dropkick Murphys... um. Okay?

I'm both a huge Nirvana and Dropkick Murphys fan, but Murphys in front of Nirvana and this high on the list is just wrong.

EDIT: Oh and GoGo listen to "The Queen is Dead" album by The Smiths. It's awesome (Y)

Foo Fighters are a good singles band ("Everlong" and the criminally underrated "Aurora" are two of my favorite '90s songs), since I'm asking for recommendations on iconic albums someone give me something for BRUUUCE, Megadeth and AC/DC are Megadeth and AC/DC so take that as you will, and then another band I haven't heard.

For Bruce, the obvious one is Nebraska. The stumbling block for most people getting into Springsteen is the cornier E-Street Band sound that comes with Born To Run or Born In The USA, while Nebraska is Bruce at his most stripped back and wonderful, and has some of his finest songs.

The River is worth it if only for the title track, which is one of my favourite ever songs, and "Hungry Heart", which is a bit of a guilty pleasure.

Ultimately, though, I'd say Darkness On The Edge Of Town is probably his best album - or at least equal with Nebraska. It's got Badlands and Racing In The Street, which are two of his best tracks, and the whole album is very tight...it's the E Street Band, but not being allowed the pomp and extravagance of Born To Run, just proving that they're a solid band. Brilliant stuff.

Belle&Sebastien - heard the odd song, they are okay.

Led Zeppelin - criminally low, in my opinion. Should be top 10.

New Pornographers - I've heard the name... and that's it.

Biffy Clyro - a bit hit and miss for me, but they were great live at Download in '07 and Whose Got A Match? is infectious as hell.

A7X - City of Evil is a great album. The newer stuff is okay (I love the macabre of A Little Piece of Heaven), but isn't quite as slick or together as CoE. Not heard enough of the earlier stuff to comment.

Vampire Weekend - I heard one song when they first broke onto the scene and it was fucking horrible.

Disturbed - A fun live band. Albums are generally okay, but nothing special. You could probably make one very good album from the tracks from their entire catalogue to date.

Nirvana - Their greatest hits album was on permanent rotation for my A-level Physics homework, back in t'day (along with, bizarrely, 'Room on Fire' by The Strokes and 'Twelve Shots on the Rocks' by Hanoi Rocks). I haven't heard many album tracks, but the ones I've heard seem okay.

The Smiths - Not bad, but quite over rated.

Dropkick Murphys - See above.

Bruce Springsteen - THE FUCKING BOSS! NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT!

Foo Fighters - Perfectly acceptable stadium rock.

AC/DC - love a few songs, but Download showed that they are dull as dishwater outside of the big hits. Also, Angus does the single dullest guitar solo I've ever seen - Joe Perry showed him up so much at the same festival.

Megadeth - Great, great band.

A Wilhelm Scream - I'm pretty sure I've heard a song or two by these, but I can't remember at all what they are like.

I'll agree, laid back is a long...LONG way better than big stadium rock Bruce.

But I'm mostly just taking this post as an opportunity to post quite possibly my favourite cover ever. Jeniferever doing "One Step Up";

Unreal. :wub:

And;

...badass...they sound badass.

Guest Mr. Potato Head

Vampire Weekend are the most ridiculous bit of hipster folk shit to grace God's green earth, there's nothing redeeming out them at all other than that they make 17-year-olds think they like cool music.

They make a catchy, calming infectious blend of indie and pop music and I think it works perfectly. Contra's one of my favourite albums of 2010 - they're quirky. I really quite like 'em. But that's just me.
