The thing with playoff baseball is that you could have the best pitchers on the planet, but if they have 1 of their 5-6 bad starts of the year during a playoff game it can undo everything despite how good the team is. The worst hitter on a team, hitting .200, could have that 1 in 5 at-bats that goes for a hit when the winning run is on 2nd. The best hitter on a team could have one of their 0-4 games with 4 strikeouts during a deciding Game 7.

You just can't predict what's going to happen. LA should win if paper wins championships, but again a bad start from Kershaw, a bad hitting night from Puig and Ramirez, or a fluke error on a routine grounder could be all it takes to take them from favorites to eliminated.

It sort of works out where over the nearly 20 years since expansion to 4 teams there hasn't been a seed more likely to make the World Series than any other. Just goes to show you how everyone has a shot in the playoffs.

The Mets have apparently sold out tomorrow's game for Mike Piazza HOF induction day. That's cool and all, but they've already said they still aren't retiring his number 31. I don't get it. They haven't given that number out since he left, and it's obvious they're never going to give it to another player. So just retire it. He's the best hitter you've ever had, you dummies. It's bad enough they refuse to retire any numbers from the '86 Mets, the best team the Mets have ever assembled.
