Why are they loaning him out, he isn't even a youth prospect. He's 25!

Profit.

They bought him for £3m in 2015, let's say he's on £1m a year till 2020, so Chelsea's total outlay on him would be £8m over the course of his contract if he stayed at the club.

If they can get a £1m loan fee plus his wages paid every year for those five years, that £8m outlay is suddenly a £2m profit. If he signs a new deal with Chelsea, as most of their loan players appear to do before getting sent out, you can add any eventual transfer fee to that profit, so £2m might become £7m. He made 25 appearences for a mid-table Bundesliga team and is now moving to a higher end Championship club, if he impresses there, he's going to be worth a lot than Chelsea paid for him originally, so their potential profits on him could reach eight figures. Now multiply those potential profits by the 20+ players in Chelsea's loan squad.

Sheffield United have signed Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on a season-long loan.

Watford striker Obbi Oulare has joined Royal Antwerp on a season-long loan.

Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

Middlesbrough have completed the £6.5m signing of Ashley Fletcher from West Ham. He has signed a four-year deal on Teesside. He becomes the latest striker signing for Boro following deals for Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite.

Sky sources understand Sunderland have rejected a bid from Besiktas for Jeremain Lens.

The Dutch international winger, who arrived in an £11m move from Dinamo Kyiv two years ago, spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce. It is understood Sunderland would be willing to sell the 29-year-old, but the offer fell short of their valuation.

Sky sources understand Omar Bogle has been placed on the transfer list by Wigan. Paul Cook doesn’t believe the player fits into his style of play. Ipswich, QPR and Barnsley have all expressed interest in taking the forward. Wigan are thought to value him at £800,000.

Sheffield Wednesday have had a bid of £100,000 rising to £200,000 turned down for Blackburn defender Charlie Mulgrew, according to Sky sources.

Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Nathan Baker from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

Bostik League Premier Division club Billericay Town are set to make another high-profile signing in former Arsenal, Liverpool and Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant.

Season-long loan.

I read that our interest in Sanches might be a two-year loan (the same trick we've been doing with German/Italian clubs, only in reverse for once). Seems a decent option for depth although since he's unlikely to break past Kante/Fabregas/Bakayoko in terms of regular starts, I wonder quite what his or Bayern's motivation for such a move would be.

Whether it's this guy or Ox or whomever, anyone with a bit of versatility is a must. We've so far spent a lot of money keeping our first team stable (Morata to replace Costa, Bakayoko to replace Matic, Rudiger to replace Terry), whilst also gutting our bench by ditching Chalobah/Ake/etc. Compare this with Man City, who have spent a lot of money to massively improve their wing-back options. We could do with a bit of that.

Right now, in terms of available 'senior' players, we only have Willian for AM (Hazard and Pedro injured), only Kante and Fabregas for CM (Bakayoko injured, Matic on his way out), and only Alonso and Moses as for wing-backs. Sure, maybe we'll actually get something meaningful out of our youth players like Boga, Musonda, Tomori or (LOL) Cuevas...but this is Chelsea we're talking about. C'mon now.

In news we all missed (or couldn't be arsed to mention) Jermaine Pennant has joined Billericay Town. His new team mates include Paul Konchesky and Jaime O'Hara and with Pennant are now spending £30,000 a week on wages in the SEVENTH tier!
