Seeing Meadow Lane full when Notts County played Man City and got a 2-2 draw was something that I'll never forget, just as the other teams you mentioned will never forget their moments on the big stage. The rare upsets live in the memory for years and, for some clubs, like Hereford and Sutton, have been the greatest moments in their histories. I could perhaps countenance the idea of scrapping the League Cup if fixture pile-ups became too problematic. It's a midweek competition that doesn't get the same level of support from either the clubs or the fans. Similarly, the EFL Trophy, at least in its current format, could be dropped if they're not going to remove the Premier League reserve teams. The FA Cup, however, is primarily a weekend tournament that encompasses more or less the entirety of English club football. From lower-tier EFL clubs getting a day out against a Man United or Chelsea to semi-professional clubs getting the once-in-a-lifetime chance to play those same EFL clubs, and even those same semi-pro clubs facing their Premier League heroes (remember Havant and Waterlooville not so long ago?), the FA Cup throws out encounters that people can dine out on for years.

I've never understood why people dismiss consoles because they have a lot of crap games. If enough of its games are great, what's the problem? The bad ones don't erase them from existence. I'd actually say that the Switch is my favourite Nintendo system. I never had a NES or an N64 until years after their heyday, and I feel as though they've aged worse than any other Nintendo console. I agree that the Gamecube was underrated, as was the Wii in some circles. I enjoyed quite a few Wii U games, although I think the machine itself was a bit of an awkward mish-mash of parts. The SNES was, in my opinion, the best console of the pre-Sony era. The Switch just does so much for me. It has the best of Nintendo's console and handheld franchises, some welcome ports of great third-party games and, pretty much for the first time, significant support from smaller development studios. Seeing Nintendo rebound after the commercial failure of the Wii U has been one of the nicest video game stories of the last decade.

A bit of a gap between now and its first airing might be a good thing. I think a lot of people are still drained after the main series ended. Reading The Winds of Winter before then would be nice, but let's not get too carried away with our wild hopes and dreams.

The big saving grace for me has been that I've been able to get good deals on eShop credit, which effectively makes digital games cheaper. If you're living in a country where eShop vouchers are never sold at less than face value, however, your only option is to fork out ridiculous prices for games that are over a decade old.

Nintendo-published games have a history of holding their price over the course of a console cycle. As they don't tend to release more than a couple of entries in their biggest franchises on the same system, they can maintain interest for a long time after the games' initial releases. What bothers me most about Switch game pricing is the third-party multiplatform titles. You'll see ports of games over a decade old costing as much as new releases on the eShop, which is ridiculous. Resident Evil 4 is on sale in Europe now for £19.79. None of its re-releases on the other consoles cost that much at full price, let alone with a discount. I'll admit that I paid the asking price because I think the game is great and wanted it on a handheld, but I felt like a bit of a mug,
