England - The Southgate Years

Fing about England is, they always try an' walk it in.

Seriously :shifty:

But honestly, I feel like they need Kane and Vardy together, and they need to mix up delivery. First half all they did was work the ball into the box (which would have suited Vardy), second half all they did was cross it (which would usually suit Kane). It seems utterly daft when they have such a deft ability at getting the ball into the final third that they only have one actual forward in that position, and that for half of the match they weren't even playing to his strengths.

Rashford scored a hattrick on his U-21s debut, in a 6-1 win over Norway. The other 3 were scored by Chelsea trio Nathaniel Chalobah, Reuben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker.

The fb comments are great.

"Looking forward to the future Manchester United Marcus Fireford"

At least she corrected it, I guess.

The FA have changed England's 2022 target from 'Win the World Cup' to 'Be ready to win the World Cup', whatever the fuck that means.

Well, over the last year or so, the FA have completely rewrote their coaching models and brought the new qualifications in on 1st August. I'm currently literally one of the first fifty or so coaches in the country studying the new level two qualification. This was all done with the goal of winning the 2022 World Cup.

But, let's say for argument's sake, the average age of a World Cup winning squad is 25 and the bulk of the squad is between 22 and 30. That means that the very youngest players in this hypothetical squad are already 14-16 and are 6-8 years into their academy football careers, rewriting the coaching guidelines isn't going to do shit by 2022. 2030 would be a more realistic target.

That's even without the academies probably looking at the 'England DNA' model, laughing and throwing it in the bin.

England news: Bizarre Uefa technical report, led by Sir Alex Ferguson, praises England's performances in France

Uefa has released a bizarre technical report from Euro 2016 which has praised the English national team for their performances at the tournament and even singled out Joe Hart for his “accurate distribution” from the back.

The report, compiled by Sir Alex Ferguson and a team of ‘technical observers’, examined the technical and tactical performances of all the sides involved at Euro 2016.

But despite losing to minnows Iceland in the last 16 stage of the tournament, the report has painted an overwhelmingly positive picture of England’s performances in France.

Six things Allardyce must address ahead of England's next match
In particular, the findings specified England’s “emphasis on building from the back” and Joe Hart’s “accurate distribution” - even though the keeper was snubbed by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City for his apparent deficiencies in this department.

The report also praised England’s “neat, high-tempo combinations”, their “varied attacking options” and their “youthful, energetic team”.

In terms of possession, technical observer Peter Rudbaek stated that: “I would say that only Germany, Spain and England genuinely wanted the ball.”

The report found that England had an average of 59% possession per match – a figure bettered only by Germany (63%) and Spain (61%).

It's sort of not when you look at the games from a purely technical standpoint of playing through the thirds and don't take the final result into consideration, in all four games we played, we dominated possession, passing attempts, completions and percentages, territory and chance creation. We did all the things that report said we did, we built from the back, we played neat, quick, one and two touch football up until the final third but that's where the problems started.

It would be interesting to see if that report mentions the lack of quality in the final third, our inability to play a killer ball and lack of finishing in front of goal. It really just enforces England's main problem we've had for years, we have a lot of possession and don't do anything with it.

Found the report, England are page 40.

Super stat: Most frequent pass = Smalling to Cahill.

Hiddink was mostly responsible for the not qualifying, Blind isn't doing much better, recently, a technical director of the KNVB (Dutch FA) resigned, as did Marco Van Basten as assistant manager, and a bunch of others.
