What, with the red card? Rooney clearly exaggerated the foul but there was certainly a yellow card worthy foul there.

Possibly, but let's not pretend the commentators wouldn't have slaughtered Suarez for the same thing

Well yeah, but does dirty greasy foreigner Suarez have one of these?

I'm getting flashbacks to the debate on whether it's okay for an attacker to flail like a dying swan for a penalty provided there was any manner of (tiny) foul on his way through...

It was definitely a foul, I'm still just bemused as to why Rooney would risk injury going down like that.

He fears the mighty Newcastle and wanted to buy himself an excuse to sit out the game.

I've not seen a replay (was playing pool at the time) but I thought Schweinsteiger got the ball and that was the concensus of people that saw it, including a Scum fan. I'm guessing from this thread that he didn't?

Referee got the Valencia decision spot on, for the record, it was a freekick on the basis that there was significant contact but both men were entitled to go for the ball. In real time I thought it was a second booking, if not a straight red, but on replay I'd be disappointed if one of my team's players didn't make the challenge Valencia made.

Iron Mike is going to steal his plane ticket to Brazil.

Is it just me or has Rooney been 'simulating' a bit lately? I didn't watch this game (but going on comments here), same thing against Liverpool, and I can't remember if it was in the Villa game or just the other Liverpool game Man U had? It's not all time, but I've seen it two or three times (albeit only once a game) recently.

Turns out my coach to Paris is one of the double-decker ones with good leg room. RESULT.

...I'll still be a shattered, pale shadow of my former self by the time we get back, mind. :shifty: Hopefully we can do something stupendous and actually nick a win.

Chelsea start without a specialist striker as manager Jose Mourinho opts to play Andre Schurrle as his most advanced attacker in the absence of injured Samuel Eto'o. Fernando Torres drops to the bench in one of three changes to the starting line-up that lost to Crystal Palace on Saturday. Schurrle's move to the point of the Chelsea attack opens up a playmaking role for Oscar while Ramires and Willian come into midfield in place of Frank Lampard and the cup-tied Nemanja Matic. Former Chelsea defender Alex is recalled to the Paris St-Germain starting XI in place of Marquinhos to face his old club. There are another three changes from the side that beat Nice 1-0 last time out with defender Maxwell and midfield duo Blaise Matuidi and Thiago Silva back in the side. Former Palermo man Javier Pastore is one of those to drop to the bench alongside former Newcastle man Yohan Cabaye.
PSG: Sirigu, Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell, Verratti, Thiago Motta, Matuidi, Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi. Subs: Douchez, Cabaye, Marquinhos, Digne, Rabiot, Pastore, Lucas Moura.
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Ramires, Luiz, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle. Subs: Schwarzer, Lampard, Torres, Mikel, Ba, Ake, Kalas.
Referee: Milorad Mazic (Serbia)
Real Madrid's 'BBC' forward line start. Frenchman Karim Benzema, Welshman Gareth Bale and Portugual's Cristiano Ronaldo lead a strong Real team at the Bernabeu. Midfielder Angel Di Maria is ill so Spain international Isco comes into the starting XI. Iker Casillas replaces Diego Lopez in goal, while Fabio Coentrao takes the place of Marcelo at left-back. Borussia Dortmund's summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the man to replace suspended striker Robert Lewandowski. Key midfielder Marco Reus - who missed the last match against Zenit St Petersburg - is in the starting XI.
Real Madrid: Casillas, Carvajal, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Fabio Coentrao, Modric, Alonso, Isco, Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo. Subs: Diego Lopez, Varane, Casemiro, Nacho, Morata, Illarramendi, Jose Rodriguez.
Borussia Dortmund: Weidenfeller, Piszczek, Hummels, Papastathopoulos, Durm, Kehl, Sahin, Grosskreutz, Mkhitaryan, Reus, Aubameyang. Subs: Langerak, Friedrich, Hofmann, Jojic, Kirch, Schieber, Duksch.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg (England)
