Must be so hard for anyone to lose a child. I'll be honest it was quite hard reading it without getting upset but hopefully him and his wife can continue to move forward.

Crystal Palace’s Connor Wickham is to serve a three-match suspension after the Football Association charged him with violent conduct following an incident with Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen.

The striker appeared to catch Vertonghen with an elbow in the 69th minute of Spurs’ 3-1 Premier League victory at Selhurst Park last Saturday, but was only seen doing so on video and not by match officials.

Wickham admitted the charge but mitigated against the standard three-match suspension. However, that was rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission and he has now been ruled out of Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round fixture with Stoke.

An FA statement read: “Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today [Friday 29 January], Connor Wickham will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect.”

The 22-year-old will miss two further fixtures in the Premier League, at home to Bournemouth and away at Swansea

A club spokesman has now said that he may be offered a new deal after all.

Sounds like a "let's gauge the fan backlash and decide" type thing here.

From what I've read, Terry's agent called up the club to start negotiations on a new contract as he does every January (he's been on one year contracts for a while now), but was told they weren't going to offer one right now. The club do say that if the next manager thinks differently then that could change, but Terry doesn't want to be held in limbo until July because it can take a few months to identify a really good new club and set things up right (especially if it might involve moving his family overseas), so I'm pretty sure that he's just going to move on.

Unless the club panics and offers him a new contract this month, of course. The fact that they've come out with a statement to emphasise the word 'maybe' certainly indicates a bit of firefighting at the very least.
