Man, I had to settle for a seat on Friday instead of Thursday because all the good seats for Thursday were gone. I haven't had to do that for GotG vol. 2, Thor: Ragnarok, or Black Panther.

Read this theory for Captain Marvel and it makes a lot of sense

What if our (remaining) heroes realize that they need way more firepower to have a hope against Thanos, so of course they go ask Fury for more supers.  He tells them the biggest gun he ever knew was back in the 1990s... but she disappeared. Then Strange does his finger tutting (because he has the Eye back or whatever) and vanishes. End of movie.

Then the Captain Marvel movie happens all in the 90s with her own adventure/origin, but in the very end (probably as an end-credits scene) Strange shows up in her time to plead for her help. She agrees because she’s Captain fucking Marvel, and Strange timey-wimeys them both back to... Avengers IV: The New Avengers.

And that’s how we get Carol to the present without dicking around with her lack of aging, and it also explains why she wasn’t around for the entirety of the MCU.

Avengers 4 stuff

The picture leaks have Avengers 1 gear but with Ant Man in it, so the time travel will likely involve him/strange maybe going to different time zones to recruit heroes (get Mjolnir?) and tell them what to avoid (Civil War?) so they stay strong

maybe

Spoiler

Wesley Snipes as Blade for the Avengers IV confirmed then. :pervert:

If they'd make it the 80s it would be even more spectacular, because with how they art-directed films like GOTG and Thor 3, they could get a lot of play with the entire 80s setting of bright lights and even brighter fashion.

And the 80s has a lot of room for story writing with so much going on on the world stage, with the USSR in their final decade and starting shit in Afghanistan that put the world on edge, Reagan getting shot, the Star Wars project, and so forth. There's just a treasure trove of real world intrigue to be altered or mentioned, and the need for a celestial hero like Cpt. Marvel would have a much more interesting story to delve with. With the whole "An American woman having to defend the entire world (yes, even the USSR, even if we don't like them.)" concept

And maybe sneak some Disco Dazzler references in there. :pervert:

And them being a forgotten/dissapeared hero would make more sense if it was further in the past than the 90s

So, how to watch these movies.

By release order, or some sort of chronological order like https://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/marvel-cinematic-universe-timeline-avengers/ suggests?

The best way is really to just watch it going by release order.

Phase 1:
- Iron Man 1
- The Incredible Hulk (Optional, since they retconned a lot of things that happened in TIH, most notably the main actor)
- Iron Man 2
- Captain America: The First Avenger (Most of the film is set chronologically before everything, except for a few small bits that bring in IM2's continuity)
- Agent Carter S1 & S2 (Tv-Show set in the 1950s, completely optional, but it adds a bunch of history if you're interested in that!)
- (!)Marvel's The Avenger (The final film of Phase 1, connecting everything)

Netflix Shows: (Completely optional)
- Daredevil S1
- Jessica Jones S1
- Daredevil S2
- Luke Cage S1
- Iron Fist S1
- The Defenders S1
- The Punisher S1
- Jessica Jones S2
- Luke Cage S2 (Not yet released)
- Daredevil S3 (Not yet released)
- ???

Phase 2:
- Iron Man 3
- Thor: The Dark World
- (!)Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Guardians of the Galaxy (Can be watched at any time before this, no direct connections to the rest of the MCU)
- (!)Avengers: Age of Ultron (Again, connecting everything that has happened)
- Ant Man

Phase 3:
- (!)Captain America: Civil War
- Dr. Strange (Can be watched w.e., no real connections)
- Guardians 2 (Again, can be watched w.e.)
- Spider-Man: Homecoming (Can be watched any time after Civil War)
- Thor: Ragnarok (Can be watched after Dr. Strange)
- Black Panther (See Spidey)
- (!)Avengers: Infinity War (Upcoming in April)
- Ant-Man and the Wasp (Upcoming in July)
- Captain Marvel (March 2019)
- Avengers 4 (May 2019)

Agents of SHIELD: (Advanced Optionality!)
- S1 E01-E16 (Between Avengers and Winter Soldier)
- S1 E17 and beyond (Whenever you feel like)

-- Put an exclamation mark (!) before films that are book-enders or generally ones that change things in such a way that you can't really watch it out of order.
-- Also remarked the ones that can be watched out of order, so any film without remarks are just best watched in order.
-- Also added the TV Series, but all of them are 100% optional for the advanced Marvel fan.

So just basically watch Captain America and the Avenger films? :P

I've been watching everything by release order, almost done with everything now, and it's been awesome, but I do this every year anyway. I don't watch the Netflix MCU shows as that's almost a completely different universe and to be frank just not as good as everything else in the MCU.

The only movie probably absolutely optional is Hulk, but everything else either has a Infinity Stone or a connecting plot for one of the major characters of the MCU, including stuff like Homecoming and Black Panther. Perhaps Ant-Man is the only other optional one, as he doesn't get as much shine from what I've seen as everyone else has been getting.
