Premier League 2018/19

I imagine (and would like to think) that this is before tax. Think Italy have a high tax. Plus taking into account he's a free transfer.

So I highly doubt he's getting 400k into his bank account each week.

Then again I could be completely fucking wrong and Juve have gone mad.

This is what happens when you let a players contract run down, teams can spread a potential transfer fee over the players wages, because that’s exactly what’s happening.

Rather than us getting a nice £40-50m for him, it goes straight to Aaron Ramsey.

There’s no way he’s getting that sort of contract without being a free agent.

I'm amazed more players haven't cottoned on to the fact that they can run their contracts down and then get a massively inflated wage at a new club.

Joe Cole stole a wage when he joined us on a free transfer.

I think that most clubs are wise to it and try to sell them on before.

Arsenal are just not very good at it.

Mystified how anyone thinks that is a foul on the keeper.

Uh oh, Wolves picked up a late point.

They're closing the gap! :shifty:

I'm more annoyed that the linesman missed the blatant foul on Almiron a minute earlier directly in front of him which would have pretty much finished the game. No complaints about the goal at all, and the number of people on Twitter going "where did the extra minute come from" when we wasted a minute bringing Manquillo on. Stupid people.

Dubravka's control of his area has absolutely vanished this season, I blame Subbuteo keeper Steve Harper...

I think they also forget it's 'a minimum of X minutes', not a maximum, ref can play ten minutes if he wants.

Oh yeah, it was absolutely a foul on Almiron down in the corner.

What a shite goal to concede. Dubravka wouldn't have done that against United.

Odd statement, he's never played against us as far as I know.

Whoever Ramsey's agent is we should get him to negotiate Brexit for us.

We had a pre-season tour in eastern Europe a couple of years ago, must've been then.

Manchester United accounts show that the pay-off for Mourinho and his staff was £19.6m.

Money well spent?

Yes.

More delays to Spurs stadium - AP reporting it now won't be open until early April.

So is it true that one royal family is pissy that another royal family has a shiny premier league toy in Manchester City and wants to buy United so they can have a shiny pl toy of their own?

Well, we had a wrestling world cup because another country has the football world cup, so I wouldn't be surprised.

He should see about the £220k of it per week with the rest going to the Italian tax man

Le sigh.

Often with these things the club gets to appeal it, which will at least delay the ban's start past the summer transfer window so that they can get some moves in (and if they're a Spanish club, they then get the ban reduced to one window...but I would never expect to benefit from such favouritism :shifty:). Who knows if that will happen though.

Interesting that in addition to punishing Chelsea, the English FA are also getting fined CHF 510,000 (I guess for...being complicit?).

Fixtures for the new Premier League season will be released at 9am tomorrow morning, so let's make some predictions for the new season which will probably look stupid in six months or so:
Spurs will only scrape top-4 due to the Wembley effect. Pep's Man City will struggle again due to Ederson failing to settle. Arsenal to finish 6th. Huddersfield and Brighton will survive. Newcastle will be relegated with a different manager in place by Christmas. Watford will be relegated. Bournemouth will finish above Southampton. Bilic or Puel will be the first manager to be sacked. Talking of Newcastle...

Fixtures for the new Premier League season will be released tomorrow morning, so let's make some bold predictions for the new season ahead:
Leicester will only manage a top-ten finish. Chelsea will only make the Europe League spots at best. Top 4 of Man City, Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal. In what order I have no idea. Liverpool will just miss out towards the very end of the season. Watford to continue to struggle under a new manager, particularly if one of Deeney or Ighalo leave, and get relegated. Bournemouth build on last season and do well again. Hull to straight back down to the Championship with Middlesborough. Burnley to just scrape survival, at the expense of... let's say Crystal Palace. Koeman's Everton to finish below his old club Southampton despite spending a metric fuckton of money. Pulis (WBA) or Guidolin (Swansea) to be sacked first.

So yeah, it was kind of getting lost in the talks of actual football, but if you'd like to join the EWB Fantasy Premier League, the code is below. Use this thread for fantasy team discussions and such.

I remember a while ago we used to predict who would finish where in the table so I thought I'd put EWB to the test and see who was the best at predicting what would happen in the Prem this season. Who will be our version of Paul the Octopus and who will be as good as predicting things as Mark Lawrenson. There will be 5 questions with a total of 100 points up for grab and come the end of the season I will add all the points up to crown our first winner.
Question 1) Top goal scorer (5 points for correctly guessing the top scorer, A extra 10 points is awarded for guessing top scorer and amount of goals)
Question 2) Most assists (5 points for correctly guessing the top assist maker, A extra 10 points is awarded for guessing top and amount of assists)
Question 3) First team to sack their manager (10 points)
Question 4) Predict the table (2 points for each correct position,
Question 5) Predict the three teams which get promoted to the Prem (5 points for each team guessed correctly, If you get all three correct; a extra 5 points is awarded)

      Here are my answers:

      1) Diego Costa - 22 goals
      2) Coutinho- 14 Assists
      3) Watford will sack their manager first
      4) Chelsea, Man.Utd, Man.City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Swansea, Southampton, Everton, Stoke, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, West Brom, Aston Villa, Leicester, Sunderland, Bournemouth, Norwich, Watford
      5) QPR, Middlesbrough, Hull City

The Premier League has announced a decision not have a title sponsor from season 2016/2017. The move reflects the organisation's desire to mirror major American sports leagues like the NBA and NFL in presenting a 'clean' brand. Having been sponsored by Barclays since 2004, in 2016 the competition will be known simply as 'The Premier League'. Predictions which will probably almost all turn out incorrect! Chelsea will win the league Man Utd second, Arsenal and City to squabble over third and fourth Rodgers to be sacked before the season ends Spurs to be better but ultimately fall short of the top four once again Bournemouth will perform well and survive. Watford will finish bottom of the pile with at least one managerial change mid-season. Norwich will scrape survival at the expense of an established top flight team. Sunderland fans buy flowers for Dick Advocaat's wife after he stays at club
