It's going to be absolutely hilarious if one of the greatest divisional races in memory ends with the 3rd place Phillies, who were bang on average all year, as the last team standing.

Moreover, if the Phillies and Padres can actually close it out, it would mean that all 3 100-win NL teams will be gone by the NLCS and the regular season will feel even more meaningless.

But you know, playoff revenue is all that matters.

Yeah that's a big thing that I can't stand, just makes the 162 games mostly meaningless. Hell, the games that matter are down the stretch for those last WC spots or in a division with teams with low win totals.

I think playoff baseball can be absolutely great but you gotta find a way to make game 94 mean almost as much as game 4 of the NLDS.

I feel mildly better about things with the Dodgers and Braves out too.  The regular season just meant fuck all for all of the NL juggernauts.

Owners should look at these playoffs and realize that they should do everything they can to make the playoffs, getting one lotto ticket is all you need.  But you’ll still have cheapskates who will shoot for simply playing mildly competitive baseball.

They opened the gates at Yankee Stadium as early as 3 PM today and then called off the game at 9:30 PM.

Now a winner take all game is being played at 4 PM on a workday, completely screwing over plenty of ticket holders.  The the ALCS starts Wednesday.

Absolute clusterfuck.  With these terrible playoff schedules they really should force all the owners to build roofs.

As much as I love open air stadiums, ALL MLB teams should have roofs. Retractable or not.

While it's a nice thought, there's a few challenges to having existing stadiums build retractable roofs beyond just cost.

But the roofs, even when they're not over the stadium, look kinda unsightly.  Try finding anyone who wants to ruin the aesthetic of Fenway or Wrigley.

The issue the New York stadiums would have is you can't even really use "the roof makes this a year-round venue" as an excuse to justify the cost, especially if you're pushing any of it on taxpayers.  The counter is "we already have MSG, Barclays, and UBS close by and one of them will always be open".

A rare blunder by Francona.  Yesterday was gonna be basically a 4th starter/bullpen game and not much anyone could do about it.  But the rain delay would’ve allowed Bieber on 3 days rest and he wanted to pitch, just like Cortes is doing.

Instead he remained firm with pitching Civale, who throws pure junk and the Yankees have already hit hard twice this year.  It predictably went poorly.

Just make roofs, retractable or otherwise, a requirement for new stadiums. If a city or team wants a new open air stadium, let them. But at the price of any games called off due to bad weather either moved to the other team's stadium when rescheduled (postseason) or flat out forfeited (season).
